Mina looked from the collar to her ring and back again. “How?”

“Were you wearing the ring the day they did the pictures for the auction?”

“Yes.” She’d never taken it off, and thankfully nobody asked her to.

“He must have noticed and requested one of the photos be enlarged.”

She wanted to believe it was a sign. If the ring was a symbol of protection—even if it didn’t work in the magical way it was supposed to—maybe the collar meant she’d be safe.

“You should put it on, now,” Annette said.

When the collar clicked into place, a weird sort of peace settled over her. That feeling didn’t last long.

Annette opened a drawer and pulled out a black and red corset, black panties, stockings, and a garter belt. “This is what you have to wear for the exchange.” She opened another drawer and took out a pair of black heels. “I’m not sure if these will fit you. Try them.”

They were a little tight. Annette helped her get ready, and then pulled out a blindfold. Mina shrank back.

“Anton said you might react this way, so I was sent up to smooth things. Normally it’s my master or one of the other partners who does the exchange, but they thought you’d feel safer with me. They’re big about ceremony around here. It’s no big deal. But it’ll be even easier for you. Normally you must verbally address your new master, which makes a lot of girls nervous, but the buyer has requested that part be left out. So all you have to do is make it across the floor to him. He expressed a desire to make this trade as easy on you as possible.”

Anton’s slave produced a silver ring the size of a bracelet. And a leash. She snapped the ring around the collar and attached the leash.

“I’ll lead you into the hall where the exchange will be completed. When we reach the showroom, I’ll nudge you, and you’ll crawl across the floor to him. It’s a carpeted floor so it won’t be a big deal, and I’ll lead you. You don’t have to do anything formal. He’s relaxed the rules for the exchange because he knows your history. All you have to do is kneel there silently while the documents are signed and everything is finalized. He’ll feed you to complete the ceremony, then he’ll lead you out.”

Of course Anton’s slave would make it sound like “not a big deal”, but it was a very big deal. And he knew her history? What happened to the doctor/patient confidentiality Lindsay liked to crow about? It apparently didn’t apply to slaves.

“W-what about the security bracelet?”

“Your master will take care of that once you’re out of the showroom.”

She hadn’t even seen the man who’d bought her. What if he was hideous? What if he was cruel? What if he was crazy? And wasn’t anyone who would do something like this automatically crazy? How much consent did he think she’d had in all this? She had no hope her boundaries would be honored. If the men she’d been in kink relationships with in the past hadn’t managed to care about how she felt, then she knew someone who considered her his literal property with a receipt to prove it wouldn’t care.

The only hope she had was that the house truly enforced the contracts and that she’d be able to let them know on their first visit how terrible everything was. If that was even true. Just because she’d seen Dr. Smith for months in his office didn’t mean anything he’d told her about this house and the way it operated was true. In all likelihood, once she was out the door they wouldn’t care what happened to her. Especially not after the trouble she’d caused.

“Please don’t cry, you’ll wreck your make-up,” Annette said, wiping the tears that had started to fall. “It’ll be okay.”

But the lie was in her eyes. Annette was afraid. The girl knew something. Perhaps being Anton’s slave gave her a look into the inner workings of the house that few others saw. She likely couldn’t say anything without punishment, but her expression told Mina everything. She was about to step into the pit of Hell.

“Help me get out of here,” Mina begged.

“I can’t. The security band would electrocute you. It’ll just escalate until you’re unconscious and stop running. I’ve seen it happen.”

It was becoming clear why the bracelet stayed on until the last possible second.

“J-just obey him. Don’t make him angry.”

“You’ve met him, haven’t you?” Not only had Anton’s slave probably met him, but she knew he had a temper. Had he made some sort of scene? Maybe not wanting Mina to speak wasn’t for her comfort but because he didn’t want her to speak. Ever.

Annette didn’t reply. Instead she tied the blindfold in place and led her from the room.

“W-what about my things? Lindsay said to pack.”

“We’ll send your things as soon as you get settled,” Annette said softly, trying to soothe her. But nothing would soothe her. And right now she didn’t believe she’d ever see her things again. As if that mattered anymore.

“Come on. You just have to get through this. It will work out.” But there was nothing convincing about her words. They were programmed, commanded words—simply a script she followed to avoid punishment from her own master.

Unlike the other times Mina had descended the endless stairs to get to the ground level, this trip felt like it took no time at all. In fact, time seemed to speed up to deliver her to her doom that much quicker.

Annette nudged her and she dropped to her hands and knees to crawl across the thick, plush carpet following the direction she was pulled.
