"I didn't have my lawyer present when I agreed to those terms,” she grumbles, tugging at the bandage that’s already starting to fray at the edges.

"That's your mistake. Always have a lawyer present, pretty sure that’s one of the first things I taught you. Speaking of which, have you thought more of hiring a beneficiary lawyer? To represent you over your trust?"

She eyes me suspiciously as I sit down at the table with a fresh cup of coffee. "I thought that was your job."

"It is. Technically. But you should also have someone making sure I'm actually advocating for you, in the trust’s best interest."

Drawing little lines in the air, connecting imaginary dots, she stops, looking confused. "So, the person who is managing my trust is telling me I should use the money from my trust to hire someone to make sure the person who's supposed to run my trust is running my trust. That sounds like quite the circle jerk."

I spit out my coffee.

I will nevereverget over her mouth.

"Maybe I don't want you to have a lawyer. Not if he decides to speak for you and I don't get the pleasure of that lip,” I say, running my thumb along her pouty bottom lip.

She grabs the front of my shirt to stop me pulling back, and gives me a soft, sensual kiss that sends my heart racing. "Kingsley, I'm never ever going to be so sick that you can't partake in the pleasure of my lips. Now are you going to take my blood pressure or not."

I grant myself one more kiss before I extricate myself from her hold, clearing my throat. "Yeah, hang on." I adjust my pants. "I'm going to need a minute."

She grins. "Take as long as you need, I'm enjoying your discomfort."

"I have no doubt. Temptress."

I'm about to give her a taste of her own medicine when my phone buzzes.

"Ignore it."

"I would but it's one of my brothers."

Other than making sure I could take care of Luna's medical issues, the only way I'd been okay with taking a trip of an undetermined length was because my brothers had promised that between them, they’d watch over my office while I was gone. They'd mostly taken care of anything that had crossed my desk, with the help of Marcus helping them navigate some of the local issues. I'd really only needed to courier some paperwork that required my signature once, and I'd sat in on two short meetings to sort out some urgent issues that needed my explicit input.

If they were calling, it was important.

"Yes?"

"Gerry," Damien says.

My spine freezes rock solid and I stand up from the table and go outside where she can’t overhear. "What about him?"

"He's called a board meeting. For two days from now. I'm really sorry but—."

I cut him off. "I'm on my way."

"Want someone to go wherever you are to stay with Luna? Kiara’s back in Hong Kong and Clarissa has some business in London but I can send My-Linh."

"No. She has to be with me. I have to make sure she gets taken care of. We'll be there tomorrow.Fuck."

He sighs. "Yeah."

"Any idea what he's going to say?"

"Nope. Asking around, but nothing so far. I only just got the meeting invite five minutes before I called you."

"This is it, isn't it?"

"Or at least the start."

"I was hoping it wasn't going to happen when I was away."
