“I don’t get jealous. You want to know why?”

I swallow.

“Because if I want something, I fucking get it.

“And I’ve rescheduled the meeting for the jubilee until later this week, Mr. Baxter.”

“Did you add the people I asked for, Julie?” I ask as I pull the suit I’m going to wear from my dressing room.

“Er, yes, Mr. Baxter. Everyone on your list as well as the people My-Linh, Kiara, and Clarissa asked to be added.”

“Okay, good. I’m glad they have more people to add. My brothers’ partners are pretty much running the jubilee committee anyway. Best to just stay out of their way, really.”

My scheduling assistant laughs, voice tinny through the phone. “Yes, sir. We’ll see you in the office soon?”

“On my way now. Thank you.”

I hang up the phone and finish getting dressed, the hundred-year anniversary of Baxter clouding my brain.

Our company was founded in late 1923, and we have a big hundred-year celebration planned for the end of the year to coincide with the planned CEO vote. It’s going to be aninteresting three months. Now, with Luna’s trust on top of everything, I’m glad I’m not a big sleeper.

Grabbing my briefcase, I check my tie in the mirror before I step out into the hallway.

It’s barely seven a.m., so I don’t expect her to be awake, especially with what she’s been through the last few days. But it also feels weird to just leave without saying goodbye, considering how we left things last night.

I’d heard music blaring from her room late into the night as I sat two doors away, going through her trust’s terms with a fine-toothed comb. I sent them over to John, my personal lawyer, and he is getting back to me today with his thoughts.

Knocking gently on her door, just in case she’s awake, I don’t hear any movement inside and decide to let her sleep. She’s going to need it. I wasn’t kidding when I said I’m not going to take it easy on her. Ernest decided on three months for a reason, and he chose me for a reason. He knew me. He knew if I was the one educating her, I wasn’t going to be happy until she knew everything she could about the life she was about to live.

There are voices coming from the kitchen as I make my way down there, and I assume Theodore is talking to Violet, our housekeeper, and I’m surprised to see Luna sitting on the kitchen bench, eating a piece of toast that has butter literally dripping off it.

“Good morning,” she says to me with a bright smile.

“Morning,” I say back, accepting a cup of coffee from Theodore, who gives me a smile but doesn’t say anything. He knows I’m about to have a lot of people talking to and at me for the next twelve hours, and the fewer words I have to deal with before I get to the office, the better.

“Toast?” she says, holding out her half-eaten piece of breakfast at me.

“Er, no. Thank you.”

“You should eat some breakfast. Teddy toasted up some of the bread you made for me. He had to be schooled on just how much butter is the correct amount, but once he got it right, he agreed with me that he’s been doing it wrong his whole life, right?”

“Yes, Miss Luna. How have I lived until now?” he panders to her, giving me a wink behind her back.

“Yup,” she murmurs through another mouthful. “Seriously though, this bread is amazing. You’ll have to teach me how to make it sometime.”

I finish my cup of coffee and place it into the sink. “Did she just call you Teddy? The last person who did that is floating in the Thames.” He just grins and shrugs. “Anyway, I’ll be back around nine. I askedTheodoreto have dinner ready earlier for you. Have a good day.”

“Nope,” she says, sliding down from the counter. It’s hard not to notice how her skirt rides up her legs as she does.

Perfectly shaped, perfectly opaque. Skin begging to be worshipped with my hands, my lips.

“I’m coming with you,” she says, interrupting my thoughts.

“Sorry, what?”
