Then his eyes lock with mine, and they light up, along with his smile. My heart jumps in my chest, and I have to ball my hands into fists to contain all the emotions filling me. As Law places all the food on the tray beside the bed, Lexa arches a brow at me, mouthingHe loves you.

I quietly chuckle, rolling my eyes at her. It's a chuckle I need.

Our shouting out who's getting what candy is interrupted by Law's phone ringing. He frowns when he looks at it before saying, "I'm sorry. My secretary is letting me know there's a problem I need to attend to."

"No problem. Thank you for coming and meeting us," Charlotte says. "I'm sure Sophie made it sound like we'd use medieval torture devices on you."

"She only made me think I'd receive mild threats." He chuckles.

"And let's not forget the very real threat that was made," Lexa adds.

"Not a chance of that. I like my legs the way they are. But you don't need to worry about having to break them anyway."

"I'll walk you out of the ward," I tell him. "And be back to beat both of you in I Declare War."

"You don't really win that game," Charlotte and Law say at the same time before she exclaims, "Exactly! Thank you. Someoneelse finally understands that." She laughs. "It was nice meeting you, Lawson."

"Law, please. Nice meeting you two as well. Have a good day."

We walk out of the room, and I ignore the looks the nurses are giving me again as we pass them.

"See, I even left with my balls still attached to my body. Look at that."

"Hmm, I don't know. I might need proof later." I smirk.

His eyebrows raise. "I'm always willing to show you whatever you need to see to be sure."

"Is everything okay? With the message you got?"

"Yeah. Just something that would be better handled in person than over the phone. I'll call you later, though."

His hands go to my face as we reach the elevator, tilting my mouth up to meet his. I press my lips harder into his, wanting more, even if I know I can't get it right now. But there's always the promise of later. He breaks our kiss, smiling against my lips before backing away.

"See you later?" he asks.

I nod. "Later."

I walk back down the hallway, peeking at him getting into the elevator over my shoulder. He shoots me a smirk right before the doors close. When I reach the nurses' station, they all shoot me those same glances as before, part curiosity and part judgement. I don't understand either. Lord knows I've heard the nurses gossiping in the hallways while visiting, so maybe I’ll ask Veronica when she gets here.

I go back into the room and lose one game before winning one game of I Declare War, and we get dinner delivered to the room.

"Well, seems like you ladies are having a good night," Veronica says as she walks in.

"Especially this loser over here." Lexa snickers, pointing at Charlotte. "Hasn't won a game yet."

"I hear our Miss Sophie is winning in the dating department."

We all laugh before Charlotte says, "I swear the nurses know everything that goes on in the hospital."

"Well, it's pretty interesting when someone is dating the owner of the hospital."

My brows furrow as me, Charlotte, and Lexa give each other confused looks.

"I think someone in the grapevine got it wrong." I chuckle.

"The way I heard it, you were kissing him by the elevators before I got here."

"I was kissing someone," I admit, and Veronica wiggles her eyebrows, making me laugh a little. "He isn't the owner of the hospital."
