“Yeah, I...um, yeah,” I say, stammering and blushing like an idiot.

After a few moments of silence and watching him eye me up, I turn around with the dog and start walking away. His voice rings out and stops me in my tracks.

“Get a chance to think about my other offer?” he says, and I spin around in confusion.

“What other offer?” I ask.

His eyes travel from my thighs to my breasts, to my lips and then finally, to my line of sight.

“The one I made about pleasuring your sweet, strawberry pussy all night long,” he says huskily, making my thighs clench as my belly tightens.

I blush like a madwoman and he smirks at me, his eyes all dark and seductive.

“No, I didn’t. And I won’t be. Goodbye, Hunter,” I say, my voice a breathless whisper.

He chuckles behind me as I walk away. The last thing I hear him say echoes in my head for the rest of the night.

“All in good time, Ali.”

I bringthe puppy back to the house about an hour before dinner. Marley is already there and after we’ve fed him and got him some water, he plops on the couch and smiles as everyone gives him belly rubs.

They all keep calling him beautiful, so I decide to call him Beau. I’ve already grown attached to him, so I don’t plan on letting him go. Marley told from just one look that he’s a Bernese Mountain Dog, a popular breed out here which means he’s going to be massive, judging by his enormous paws. I don’t mind. He’s cute and sweet and loves to cuddle on my lap.

Sunday dinner is smaller than I expected. Meaning that it’s literally just Claire, Marley, Earl and Rob.

“Where’s all of the staff?” I ask as we sit at the large, wooden dining room table outside of the kitchen.

Claire places the most decadent looking roast and side dishes across the spread and instructs us to dig in.

“Claire already sent them home with their own earlier. Sundays are their early days and they’re eager to get back to their wives and kids,” Rob says before shoving spoonfuls of potatoes in his mouth as Marley rolls her eyes at him.

They flirt a lot. Like a whole lot and I don’t think either of them are aware of it, but everyone else is. It’s kind of adorable.

`After we finish dinner, I bend down and give Beau a few bites of my leftover roast He smiles his adorable floppy smile and trots away to lay down on the couch, his new favorite spot.

“Everyone! On the count of three!” Claire announces, rushing into the dining room with a cake lit with candles and places it in front of me.

It’s a white, two-tiered cake with pink lettering that saysHappy birthday Alion the top. Everyone starts singing and I stare at the cake in shock.

“Make a wish!” Marley says and I look up at everyone.

“What is this?” I stupidly ask.

“Your birthday cake, hunny! Don’t think we forgot. It’s been a wild month, but we will never forget to celebrate you. I made your favorite, strawberry with cream cheese icing. Now hurry and blow out your candles!” Claire says as I blink back tears before closing my eyes and blowing out the flames before me.

They planned this for me. It’s the sweetest gesture and it makes me miss my dad even more.

Don’t cry, not in front of everyone.

“What’s wrong, sweetie?” Claire asks as she cuts everyone a slice and hands it to them.

“I just miss him,” I say simply, swallowing the lump in my throat and maintaining my composure.

They all look at me with sad eyes and Earl pats my shoulder.

“We all do, kiddo. We all do,” he says, and we all eat our cake and reminisce about my father.
