I’d googled for the best condoms and lubes for a great experience, but nothing like this. I couldn’t imagine that I would fall in love with a dangerous out-of-control man who had friends and acquaintances who wanted to see him dead, and his boyfriend for being around him. Knowing all this, no one could convince me to leave Dante, especially since my pulse never raced as much as now, and my cock never throbbed as much as now knowing that my man might have killed someone to protect me.

“I don’t know—” Dante said. “I need time to think.”

“I thought you were in charge of dead bodies, shouldn’t that come naturally to you?” I barked. I knew without much thought that this situation was fucked up and I didn’t have the nerves to deal with it and that’s why I asked that question, and the answer Dante gave me wasn’t the answer I’d wanted or needed. He appeared as out of it as me.

Since we were on the subject of things we didn’t know about each other, it was a good time to confess things. That wasn’t my best idea, but it was the only one I had for the moment. It ranked somewhere up there with accepting an invitation from Nico after Dante warned me.

“I have a confession...” My voice was shaky, but controlled. “I wasn’t a virgin when you claimed me.” It appeared that acknowledgement hit him hard, much harder than that dead body lying near the fireplace. He crossed his arms, turned his back on me, and stormed over to the corpse and stood looking down at him, kicked him, then he turned to me and stared, his dark-brown eyes piercing me.

My heart thundered in my chest.

“Since we’re confessing, I have an admission to make to you, Rome.”

Oh fuck, here it comes. Am I going to find myself lying next to that dead dude in the trunk of his car?

“I was never the strong arm of the family. Nico passed that reputation along to anyone who would listen to ensure no one would fuck with me, or him. We paid our men enough where they kept secrets. Nico’s secret about his relationships with young men, and me who never killed anything or anyone in my life.” Somehow it was refreshing to learn that the man I’d fallen in love with wasn’t a killer, but it wasn’t reassuring. We were surrounded by killers and someone who wanted me and Dante dead, and my man wasn’t up to the task.

Since they said confessions were good for the soul, I chose to fess-up to my lies. “I’m not a hit man.”

“No. Say it isn’t so.” And Dante bent over laughing until tears dropped down his cheeks. “I didn’t think you were, but it made me hot to think that you could be.” He raised his eyebrows in a sexual suggestive manner.

Then Dante leaned over for a better look at the dude instead of fixing his eyes on my cock and lips.

“I think I know him. It can’t be,” Dante said, and pulled out a wallet from the dude’s black jacket the man wore. “No. It can’t be,” he said with a narrowed glance. On his knees he turned to me with a sullen look, and eyes narrowed and he bit his bottom lip. When I thought he’d forgotten about the virgin comment, he bit his inside jaw, and said, “Why would you lie to me about something like that? Do you know how important it is for a man to know he had his partner first?”

“Can you forgive me for that one lie?” I asked. I could tell he was an old-fashioned dude even if this gay thing was new to him. He wanted something traditional. I bet if he finds himself committed to me it will be for life. I’d hoped for the same thing, but it was too much to ask for now. I needed to get to know this man.

“In time, Rome. In time, but first we have more important things to think about and discuss, like what do we do with him?

“Do you know who he was?”

He didn’t wait for me to guess. “It’s the brother. You know the brother to the one Nico killed. It’s Alonzo. Nico will let me come home now and call off the dogs, and I can tell him about you.”

“Don’t you think you’re jumping the gun. That doesn’t sound like your brother. You never know a man unless you’ve seen him naked and I mean in the physical sense. He’s all business and if that interferes with his business and what he wants, we’ll both be swimming with the fishes.”

Dante didn’t laugh. I guessed he didn’t see the Godfather movies. Who the fuck didn’t see those movies? This man needed to lighten up. Too fucking serious. “You know you need to calm down, Dante, and think about Nico.”

I made myself busy while Dante figured out what to do. Looking over at the counter, Dante had laid the summons given to him by the officer. I picked it up, and looked at it. “What’s this?” I questioned.

“I’m busy, Rome, not now.”

“Why did that highway patrolman give you his phone number? It’s written on the back.”

“How the fuck should I know? Can you give me a hand?” Dante had been trying to drag the dude who wasn’t that big. More muscles than height.

“You know this spells he was interested in you.”

“For what?”

“Don’t you know when you’re being hit on?”

“Are you telling me that the patrolman was gay?”

“I’d say he was. Why else would he offer his phone number and name? Alex. Alex must have thought you were hot.”

“Well, I thought he was hot too.” What the fuck? One experience and he was talking about a dude being hot. I crossed my arms and looked down at Dante trying to pull the guy to the kitchen. “Are you going to help me or sulk? There is no way I thought any man but you was hot. I don’t see any man that way but you.” He made a gesture with his hands for me to help him.

I felt better. “Where are you taking him?”
