“Why’s that, sweet thing? Are you in a rush to get back to my place?” Viper dropped his gaze to her breasts.

A shiver ran through her. Just the idea of being forced into sleeping with this vile man was a knife to the stomach.

“Witnesses disappear, you know.” His smile widened.

At that moment—thankfully—the door opened. The big, muscled, scary-looking biker who’d helped load drugs into the coffins entered.

He jerked a thumb at the opening behind him. “He needs you. Says there’s a call.” His tone was ice cold and gave nothing away.

Viper shot her a look before walking out of the room.

That left her alone.

With the big, scary guy. Not only was he big, he resembled one of those guys who got into a fighting ring and mopped up. His muscles had muscles, and his jaw was so angular that he probably sharpened his knives on it.

Big knives.

Shecouldn’tshow how much he intimidated her…but exhaustion was winning out. Her brain was so disconnected from her body. She felt like she was swaying on her feet and any minute she’d fall over.

A loud voice penetrated the wall as the phone was put on speaker in the other room. Wren jumped and whipped around to stare, trying not to wince at every word that dropped.

“There’s no money! Where is the goddamn money?”

The person stammering out an answer had to be Viper, but she couldn’t make out what he was saying.

“There’s no money, Viper! And no goddamn body!”

“I have the sister for collateral.”

The blood in her veins turned to ice.

“She’s a nurse at the home. She’ll get me pharmaceutical-grade drugs. I’ll sell those. You’ll get your money.”

Her gaze snapped to the biker standing a few feet away from her. Was he keeping her from leaving? How fast could she make a break for that door or open a window to jump out?

Panic crawled through her insides like a dark, gluttonous beast.

“You’re a nurse.”

Her head jerked toward the guy.

“Can you look at something for me?”

Oh for fuck’s sake. People did this to her all the time. The minute someone learned what she did for a living, they started plaguing her with their ailments. She’d heard it all, from arthritis in their joints to a cough that never went away. One time she’d diagnosed a woman on the bus with a thyroid tumor based on the bulge in her throat. But instead of flat-out sharing her suspicions, she recommended that she see a doctor for the bump.

Butthiswas too much. After all that happened today, she was already hanging by a thread.

She gritted out a noise. “I don’t even want to be here. Leave me alone.”

His dark gaze moved over her face. They weren’t exactly kind eyes, but they weren’t evil either.

That didn’t mean anything. She knew what the Disciples did.

“I got this tattoo,” he went on.

She stopped short of rolling her eyes. Probably a heart with a dagger like the rest of the gang.

Wren shoved out a sigh. “Dirty needle?”
