We hit the bed, and he spun, sitting down so I sat on his lap. I raised my arms above my head, allowing him to run his hands up my body, his fingers playing with the clasp of my bra before lifting my shirt over my head, tossing it to the floor. Milo’s breath became heavy as he took in my bare skin. I arched my back as his lips touched my collar bone again, my neck, my cheek and again my lips.

“You’re beautiful,” he whispered, his hands moving down my back, fingers slipping underneath my belt.

I blushed and reached for him, pressing him up against me, feeling every inch of him.

“Madeline,” he whispered, cupping my face in his hands, his eyes heavy on mine, full of every emotion in the book. Passion, fire, love. Everything was swirling in the blue of the eyes that captivated me the very first time I saw them. “I love you.”

His kiss overtook my entire train of thought as we fell back onto the bed, rolling until we were wrapped in each other arms, tangled up in a wave that I never wanted to leave.

Chapter Thirty-One

-Milo-

The buzzing from my nightstand pulled me from the best sleep I have ever had. I tightened my eyes, pulled Madeline closer to me, and buried my face in her hair. We’d slept on and off all night, each waking up at different times to wake the other, exploring every inch of each other. I couldn’t get enough of Madeline. Every piece of her was something new to be discovered, a new feeling with every touch, every kiss. Madeline would scoot closer to me, bringing us even closer together. Eventually, we fell asleep, our bodies pressed together, the sheets tangled in our legs. Not a care in the world except us.

Us.

But now, the buzzing of my phone was breaking the spell, and I was refusing to acknowledge it. Madeline shifted in my arms, her warmth being drawn away as she reached for my phone.

“No…” I mumbled, moving my body to follow hers.

She chuckled, laying back down against me, my phone held up in the air. “It’s Richard.” She sighed as the phone lit up the space in front of us.

I grabbed my phone and tossed it to the edge of the bed. “He can wait.”

Madeline shifted again, a laugh leaving her lips. “You should probably call him.” She was facing me now, her face nuzzling up to my neck, her lips gently grazing my skin. “What time is it anyway?”

“I dunno.” I ran my fingers up her bare back. “Time to go back to sleep.”

“Milo…” she grumbled, her hand trailing up my chest to wrap around my neck, her fingers gently playing with my hair. “We need to get out of bed and go get Holly, and then you need to call Richard.”

I moaned. “He knows we’re on vacation.” I kissed her forehead. “Again, he can wait.”

From the bottom of the bed, my phone buzzed again, causing the bed to vibrate with every dance of the phone. I refused to move, tightening my grip on Madeline’s waist. She laughed, trying to push herself away from me.

“Milo.” Her giggle tugged me to her, opening one eye to look at her. “We have all the time in the world. Answer”—she kissed my nose—“your”—she kissed my lips—“damn phone.”

Groaning, I loosened my grip as she climbed out of bed. Madeline left me in the bed alone, the sheets where she was laying cold against my skin. I sat up and reached for my phone as Madeline stretched and walked to the bathroom, causing me to lose my focus yet again. Once the door closed, I grabbed it and noticed that call wasn’t Richard. It was my dad.

I called him back right away. He answered on the second ring, as if he were waiting for my return call.

“Hey, Milo.” His voice rang through my eyes.

“Hey, Pops.” I yawned, searching the room for a clock. It was only eight…Holly was a better sleeper than that. She couldn't be awake now. “Holly’s awake already?”

“She has been!” he exclaimed. “She’s playing with that pup. There is more hair in my house than I’ve ever seen.”

“Madeline did warn you Niko was a handful.”

“Oh, no.” Madeline poked her head from the bathroom, her amber hair falling from her shoulders. “What did he do?”

“Shed,” I responded.

“Tell Wallace I’ll vacuum before we leave,” she shouted as she disappeared back into the bathroom.

“Maddy said she will vacuum. What time should we head over? Not gonna lie, Dad. I’m still in bed.”

“Oh, take your time. Take that girl of yours out to get breakfast and then come on over. I’m going to show Holly how to make my famous omelet.” I could hear the joy in his voice, a tone that had disappeared after mom passed, but slowly with time had come back.
