“I read the pamphlet in our accommodation before we left,” I add modestly.

“No wonder you were late,again.”

Roman jumps in and says, “Thanks Siriarna, we’ll check it out.”

Alexandraya flicks her hair while turning, and storms from our meeting into the crowds. “Well…” she yells at her nominated team—they right away scurry after her.

Mortal tourists openly gape at her as she nears. I guess they’re only human.

The remaining six of us turn in the opposite direction, away from the crowds.

“Looks like it’s you and me again,” Braxton says.

I return his statement with a smile.

“We’re lucky you’re here, Siriarna. How do you remember all that information?”

“It’s easy. Well, for me it is. I don’t know how to explain it properly, but once I read something, the information somehow sticks in my mind forever,” I answer.

“That’s an amazing gift you have.”

“Thanks. I guess it is.”

Braxton’s conversation and interest in my knowledgeretention is a nice distraction from my building nerves. The impending use of my physical powers is churning at the pit of my stomach. I concentrate instead on the task of finding a relocation point.

We scout the surrounding precinct and take note of the number of tourists, buses and private vehicles stationed in the parking area. Opposite, and an easy flat walk from the attraction, is a huge open green space with enough room to initially relocate a substantial amount of people. The six of us agree this would be an excellent place to hoard the mortals if needed. Hopefully, it won’t be.

Completing our assessment, we regroup at the designated meeting point. Alexandraya’s group is already waiting. She shoots me an icy glare as I approach, and I take a sideways step closer to Braxton.

Collectively, we decide it’s best to assess the crack in the Earth’s core under the cloak of darkness, where we will have less chance of being spotted using our powers. Thea slyly mentions that the power station is how we’ll navigate our way!

Following the pathway as Catherine Lowe instructed, we easily find our way back to the apartment block.

Roman sidles up beside me. “Hey, you,” he says a little sheepishly.

“Hi,” I respond. It’s all I can come up with.

“Can we talk?” he asks in almost a whisper.

“Okay.”

“We’ll catch up with you guys a bit later,” Roman yells to the rest of our group.

Alexandraya’s eyes close to a sliver, however, she continues to lead the group inside the apartment block. Braxton nods in my direction and disappears ahead.

Roman grabs my hand and leads me to an empty bench in the adjacent park. As we sit in the late afternoon twilight, thelamppost above flickers to life. “I’ve missed you Siriarna. Can we please call a truce and get back to normal?” he asks.

I smile and respond with a conceding shrug, “I guess we can try.”

He reaches across and wraps me in a bear hug. The gesture causes me a swift intake of breath, yet it is familiar and comforting. Butterflies circle inside my stomach, and at this very moment, I decide I will not let Alexandraya come between us.

Chapter10

Siriarna

Early the next morning, the group meet on the twelfth floor of the apartment building in Alexandraya’s room.

Before we use a communication vial to contact High Power Omnisensus, Alexandraya appoints herself spokesperson. She insists there isn’t enough time to waste with multiple personal recounts. Scanning the room, it seems no one has a problem with her barking orders.
