“No, that is not a good idea.”

Noah reached his hand out. “Well, it was nice to meet you, Molly.”

The girl shook his hand and giggled.

As he walked away, he heard Molly ask her mother, “Is he a movie star?”

“No, sweetie, he’s a doctor.”

“He is awfully handsome for a doctor.”

Julie laughed out loud, and when he glanced back at her, Molly waved to him with a big grin.

Noah had to tamp down the male possessive anger that said this child should have been his.

And the clench of his heart that told him he had never really gotten over Julie.

Eight years ago…

Julie finally gotinto the bathroom this morning. She and Noah both had morning classes on Tuesdays, and there was only one bathroom in the apartment.

Something she’d never had to deal with when she lived alone or in her family’s penthouse.

In the three weeks he’d been living here, things were running pretty smoothly, but they would definitely have to work out a plan for certain mornings. Maybe taking turns getting up an hour earlier to use the bathroom. She wasn’t worried. She hated her Tuesday class anyway, and she really liked Noah.

Maybe a little more than she should. When he sometimes sat out in the main room to read, she could not help sneaking looks at him. He seemed so unaware of how good looking he was and that only made her more attracted to him. Not that she would act on it. She wouldn’t want to ruin the nice compatibility they had established. But she sure as hell was not going to bring home any of her girlfriends. She’d never thought of herself as possessive, but the thought of him dating one of them made her hackles rise.

As Julie hung up her robe and got into the shower, she noticed the bathroom smelled like her favorite perfume. Her curiosity tweaked, she sped though her morning ritual and managed to catch her roommate before he left.

“Hey, Noah. I think we should figure out a bathroom schedule for days when we both have morning classes. But I have to ask—are you using my perfume?”

He looked slightly embarrassed. “Uh…”

“Hey, I’m not judging you on your preferences, if that’s the case, but—”

“I’m not gay.”

“It’s okay with me if—”

“I like women.”

“Then why are you using my perfume?”

He blew out a sigh. “Because I took a big fat shit and knew you’d be using the bathroom next and—”

Julie burst out laughing. “I had an older brother who loved to barge into my bedroom and fart at me, then run away. Not to mention the smelly things he would bring inside from the woods behind our Connecticut house when we were kids. Once he put dog poop in my doll house.”

“Ick. I wasn’t that bad with my sisters,” he said. “Well, maybe a few times.”

“I do think we should split the seven-to-eight hour in half and alternate weekly with one of us having seven to seven thirty and the other seven thirty to eight.”

“Sounds good.”

Her hand went to her hip. “I’ll pick up some kind of room freshener, but believe me, it takes more than a morning dump to offend me. So, don’t you ever use my five-hundred-dollar bottle of Christian Dior perfume to scent the bathroom again!”

He grimaced and did a Groucho Marx goofy walk out the door.
