“I appreciate you telling me that.I hope someday Harper will feel comfortable enough to open up to me.Until then, I need you and the other girls to be there for her when she needs to talk to someone.”

Remi nodded.“We will.We like her. She’s so sweet. And funny. She’s definitely a Little, by the way, in case you didn’t already know.”

Doc narrowed his eyes.“Are you getting in the middle of my business again, Little girl?”

Remi held up her hands, but the smirk on her face told him she didn’t care one bit about the threat in his tone.

“I wouldn’t do that.Definitely not.I was just letting it be known. We talked about it since the four of us are all reading a Daddy book for Book Club.Harper is definitely a Little.I think she’s a small Little like me.”

The thought of rocking Harper in his arms and holding on to her tightly, making sure she knew she was safe and secure, warmed him from the inside out.He wanted to be the security blanket she seemed to badly need.

“Well, I’m glad to know she’s a Little. And that she’s found some Little friends. But you’ll let me know if her ex is bothering her at all.Yeah?”

Remi’s eyebrows drew together.“Is he bothering her?”

“I don’t know. She said he’s not, but since he was abusive, there’s a chance he could come after her for leaving him.So, if she mentions anything about him calling or texting or showing up at her place, you tell one of us right away.Do you understand?”

“Of course.I’ll tell you right away.”

Kade cleared his throat.“Remi and I are going to head to our suite. We’re going to have a chat before bedtime.I also think my Little girl needs her bottom cleaned out before she goes to sleep.”

Remi groaned, and Doc smiled as her cheeks turned bright pink.

He wrapped an arm around her and kissed the top of her head.“Goodnight, Little girl.Thank you for what you did.Just don’t do it again.”

“Okay,” she mumbled.Kade nudged her toward their suite.

Doc knew, without a doubt, that would not be the last time Remi got into the middle of his business. But he wouldn’t want it any other way. These little girls had become part of his family, and he loved them unconditionally.Even when they were naughty.Like he had told Harper, it was important they got to be themselves with the people surrounding them.He hoped one day he’d get the chance to show Harper that she could truly be herself around him because she was perfect just as she was.

His phone vibrated in his pocket. When he pulled it out and opened the text, he grinned.

Harper:I’m home.

Doc:Good girl.Thank you for letting me know.Your doors are locked up?

Harper:Yes.

Doc:Good.I start a three-day shift tomorrow at the firehouse. You can text me any time, but if I’m on a scene, it might take some time to respond.

Harper:Um, okay?

Doc:Just letting you know in case you decide to text me again.Which I would really like, by the way.

Harper:Okay.I’ll keep that in mind.Be careful at work.

Doc:Always.Night, kitten.Sweet dreams.

Harper:Night, Levi.You too.

Harper

The number of times she’d read the text conversation with Levi was embarrassing. It was a quick and innocent exchange, but his simple praise warmed her from the inside out every time she read the words.

Since she was off work the day after Book Club, she spent it in her favorite onesie doing all of her favorite things. She colored, played with her favorite baby doll, read some ofHaylee’s Hero Daddy, and texted Remi, Carlee, and Ivy about it, then ate fun snacks while watchingToy Story.

Of course, she also checked her phone about a million times hoping she’d have a message from Levi.
