Alastair looked over at me, and I looked back at him. I didn’t know what to say.

I wanted to say, ‘please don’t tell him he can stay here,’ but I knew I didn’t have that right. And it wouldn’t be fair to Nigel, because he’d been a gentleman so far, and why couldn’t he stay for a temporary length of time? We were all adults.

“I’d offer you the guest room but Toby’s renting it from me and all of his stuff is in there,” Alastair said.

“No, no. All I need is a couch.”

“Are you sure?” Alastair asked, and I realized that this had become a done deal while I wasn’t looking—or, while Iwaslooking but standing there gaping like a startled goat probably.

“Yeah, yeah. I’ll hardly be here. I have lots going on,” Nigel said.

Alastair glanced at me and smiled, obviously not perturbed by the fact that his former friend-with-benefits with the sexy-ass accent and gorgeous bod would be sleeping on our living room couch all next week.

Chapter Twenty-Four

Where It Started

I tried not to let it bother me. I really, really tried. But I’d only recently gotten used to living with Alastair, and now there was a super sexy guy walking around in boxer briefs and slouch socks, and I was going to lose my mind.

And Alastair fucking called me on it.

“You know, I’m starting to think that the problem you have with Nigel—”

“I don’t have a problem with Nigel.”

“—is thatyoufind him so attractive.”

I narrowed my eyes at Alastair. How dare he be so fucking perceptive.

He shrugged and sipped his coffee. “I’ve tapped it. He’s old news to me.”

“Fine. That might be why—”

“It is! It so is. Maybeyouneed to have sex with Nigel,” Alastair stated triumphantly.

I started to consider it.

“That was a joke. Don’t fucking touch him.”

We gazed at each other, and Alastair reached out and took my hand.

“Hey, look. You’ve got some time off. Do you want me to see if I can book the Bordello for tonight? Or we could go out to dinner, instead? What do you want to do? I’m yours.”

“Really?”

“Yes. Whatever you want.”

“Huh. Normally I’d be all over the Bordello idea, but since my ass is still sore, could we go somewhere nice for dinner?”

“Absolutely,” Alastair said, picking up his phone. “I need to make a call. Shoo.”

My mouth dropped open. “Did you just…tell me toshoo? Like adog?”

“Yeah.”

“Jesus,” I said, shaking my head as I left the room. I had to piss anyway.

When I came back, Alastair was smiling like he had a secret.
