“Oh,” I sighed as my body relaxed in the warmth under Alastair’s care. “Any are fine. I don’t care.”

“So, I could use ‘she’?” he asked.

“Sure.” I knew he was fishing for an explanation of my gender, and I decided to take it easy on him. “I’m gender fluid.”

“Oh,” he said. “Cool. My sister’s gender-queer.”

He rubbed the shampoo into my scalp while I tried not to show how good it felt.

“Is there a difference between being gender fluid and being non-binary?” Alastair asked.

“They’re close, for sure. It really depends on the person,” I said. “I guess I kind of feel male some of the time, and female at other times. Whereas someone who’s non-binary might not even feel one way or another. The non-binary folks I know seem to be questioning the entire idea of gender.”

“Huh. Interesting. Okay, time to rinse,” he said, nudging me to turn around. While I was leaning my head back with my eyes closed so I could rinse the shampoo out, he leaned in and gave me a sweet kiss on the cheek.

“What was that for?”

I kept my eyes closed because I really didn’t want to get soap in them.

“For being so adorable.”

I laughed, but it sounded like a schoolgirl’s giggle.

Alastair gasped. “Did you just giggle?”

I did it again. “Maybe.”

“Stop being so fucking cute. I can’t keep my hands off you,” he said, circling my waist with his hands then reaching down to squeeze my bum.

“I am entirely okay with that.”

I finished rinsing and opened my eyes to see that Alastair was lathering his own hair now.

“I’d offer to do that for you but you’re taller than me, and my arms would get tired.”

“God forbid. Thanks for letting me do yours.”

Something was niggling at the back of my head.

“Hey, you know when you, uh, tasted my, uh, spunk? Before?”

“Oh yes.”

How to ask this without seeming rude or overly paranoid.

“You sort of implied that it was your kink.”

“One of them, yes.”

“So, do you do that, like, a lot? With the guys you hook up with?”

He nudged me aside so he could stand under the stream of water to rinse his shampoo out. He gave me a sober look.

“Nope. Too risky.”

Which sent a wave of relief through me.

“Okay. Yeah,” I said. “So, it’s not risky with me because supposedly I’m only twenty and don’t generally have a lot of sex?”Oh, that doesn’t sound right. I frowned. “I mean, casual sex?”
