“I know, I know.”Tossing back three pills, I chug my water and then slide down the brick wall before hearing the familiar clackity-clack of high heels that I hate.

“Well, well, well, if it isn’t the loser and the whore’s daughter.”Margo and Hayley laugh at this; Steve just looks a little green.

“Fuck off,” I mutter, not willing to put up with this bitch today.Unfortunately, I notice her remark about Cece’s mom has hit the girl hard as her face pales, and she hides behind her hair.

Margo’s shocked reaction recovers quickly, and she glares at me.“Not my fault you’re hanging out with trash.”

“Not theirs either,” I shoot back, pointing at her so-called friends.

Margo sputters and steps forward.I sense her intent before she lifts her foot.“Wouldn’t do that if I were you,” I try to warn her.

She doesn’t listen.

Her foot nearly comes down before Malice moves in behind her with his belt around her neck. The ends are wrapped around both of his fists, and he’s tightening it until she’s red in the face.Hayley screams.Steve runs, looking ready to piss himself.

“I warned your father that if you didn’t stay away from Odette, I’d kill you.You might think I won’t; your father knows I will. What should I send him first, your head or your body?”Dragging her back as she claws and scratches at his arms, Malice remains unphased.

“Odette,” Cece hisses next to me, and I can understand she’s freaked out.

Getting to my feet, I groan as a wave of nausea hits me.“Malice, wait.”He barely stops before he sees me.Margo is dropped to the ground without a thought, and he’s at my side in seconds.“Don’t kill her.”Deep, gulping breaths narrowly keep the meager breakfast I had down.“Could you take me home, please?”I’d rather not start puking in front of so many people.

With one last glare towards Margo and Hayley, he picks me up and carries me to the front of the school where he’s parked.Cece declines to join us and goes back inside.

Slamming his door as he climbs behind the wheel, I can feel the rage rolling off him in waves of heated fury and confusion.I keep silent as he drives me home, slightly disappointed that we don’t head in the direction of his loft.Neither of us says anything, and when we finally get home, I barely make it up to my room before kicking the bathroom door shut and bending over the toilet bowl, releasing the contents of my stomach.

Aura gets horrible periods like this, where it makes her physically sick for days at a time; I should call her and see what she does to make it better.By the time I exit the bathroom, my face is a sweaty mess, and my hair is loose from the braid it was in.I’m surprised Malice isn’t here.

Stripping out of my clothes, I call Aura in the hopes she answers the phone instead of sending me to voicemail like she’s been doing lately.

“Why aren’t you in school?”Her face appears on the phone as I’m crawling into bed.“You look like death,” she mumbles around a mouthful of food.

“Thanks, sis, love you too,” I groan as my stomach twists in knots.

“Jesus, O, what is happening to you right now?”She finally puts her fork down to stare at me.

“My period,” I hiss, and her eyes widen.

“Wow, so it’s like mine?I was always a little jealous that yours was so damn easy.”After a minute, she whispers, “Are you sure you aren’t pregnant?”Her laughter isn’t met with mine, and she turns serious.“Wait, could you be?”

“I don’t think so.”Pulling the blanket over my body, I wish I had a heating pad.

“I didn’t even know you were seeing someone!Oh em gee!Malice Sinclair is going to kill someone!”How did everyone know about him but me?

“It was Malice Sinclair,” I mutter, and she deflates.

“He knocked you up.”She grins.

“I don’t think so.We only had sex a few days ago.My period started the day after.”I don’t mention the crazy sex in the shower last night or this morning. It’d gross her out.

“So?You can get pregnant and have symptoms in days. This one family in Greece I stayed with, their daughter got married, and on her wedding night she got knocked up.By morning, she was too sick to even fly to their honeymoon.”

“You have the weirdest life,” I say, but I know she’s having a blast learning about new cultures and traveling.

“I know, but seriously, she’s four months along now, and every day she’s sick.”As far as I know, Aura has kept in touch with every family she’s boarded with.

“I’m not pregnant,” I murmur again, but I keep wondering about the possibility.“He wants me to be.”

“What!”she screeches out, water spraying everywhere.“Hang on.”She’s calling in CJ to join the chat.
