Lyric released her own contented, lusty sigh. She hadn’t anticipated how good it would feel for him to hold her. So she let herself stay there as long as she could. But they couldn’t ignore the glowing clock forever. “All right, cowboy. It’s time for a shower.”

He kissed her once more, and then they lingered in the shower much too long, making out while they got clean. By the time they made it to the lodge for breakfast, all of their friends had almost finished their coffee.

“Well, look who decided to show up.” Aiden glanced at his watch. “Twenty minutes late.”

“Leave them alone.” Kyra swatted him playfully. “They’re still newly dating. It used to take us a while to get out of bed too.”

Exactly. And Lyric wouldn’t even apologize. Instead, she poured both her and Thatch a mug of coffee from the carafe and then helped herself to some of the pastries and fruit already on the table. Morning sex made a person hungry.

All during breakfast, Thatch rested his hand high on her thigh, a delicious reminder of the morning they’d spent together. When the time came to part ways, he pulled her close, even with all their friends standing right there. “Don’t have too much fun without me.”

“I won’t have any fun,” she whispered in his ear. “Because all I’m going to think about is being in bed with you.”

“Good.” He kissed her for all to see, with tongue action and everything.

“Okay. Let’s get going,” Kyra sang. “We don’t want the boys to be late for their tee time.”

When Thatch finally released her and turned away, Lyric squeezed his butt and then waved playfully.

Before she climbed into Kyra’s car, Tess gave her a funny look. Right. Her friend knew she and Thatch weren’t really together.

“You two seemed to have a good night.” Kyra turned down her radio and headed for the highway that would take them to Jackson.

“We did,” Lyric said evasively. “What about you both? Did you sleep well?”

“Besides getting up to pee three times?” Tess seemed a little cranky this morning. “We slept great.” She craned her neck to look over her shoulder at Lyric in the back seat. “I’m guessing you got the least amount of sleep out of all of us.” Her friend caught her in an interrogating gaze.

“Actually, we got more than eight hours.” Until morning time. That was when the magic had happened. But what had taken place between her and Thatch was so intimate, those moments were theirs alone. “So what stores are we going to?”

The diversion worked. Kyra started to rattle off the names of some boutiques, talking about couture baby clothes.

“But we don’t want to get too much stuff since we don’t know the gender,” Tess insisted.

“I still can’t believe you’re not finding out.” Kyra turned into the parking lot of a cute boutique just off the main road. “I will be finding out the minute I can.”

“I think it’s fun to have it be a surprise.” Lyric climbed out of the car and followed her friends into the boutique. “There’re so few surprises these days.”

“That’s how we feel.” Tess held up a miniature snowsuit with teddy bear ears on the hood.

“What about you and Thatch?” Kyra eyed Lyric. “Have you talked about the future? Marriage? Babies?”

“No.” The response shot out too quickly. “I mean, not yet. We’re kind of just enjoying the dating thing.” She did her best not to look too spooked, but she’d never pictured herself having children. That hadn’t even seemed like an option for so many years. The first time she’d gotten married, she’d wanted a family. But then when she saw past Luke’s facade, she knew she couldn’t have children with him. She wouldn’t.

“You have plenty of time.” Tess smiled and patted her shoulder, bailing her out. “No reason to rush into a bunch of responsibilities when you can simply enjoy being together for a while.”

“Right. Exactly.” She eased out a shaky breath.

“Oh, man. Now I’m the one who has to run to the restroom again.” Kyra frantically scanned the boutique.

“Wait a minute.” Lyric studied Kyra’s face. “Why are you running to the bathroom so much?” Her friend had to make an emergency pit stop on the way here. Only an hour ago. And she’d also been munching on saltines during the drive. “Oh, my God,” she said before Kyra could respond. “You’re pregnant too!” She’d been so preoccupied with Thatch, she’d missed the signs.

“Totally!” Tess agreed.

That shining smile on Kyra’s face confirmed the news. “I wasn’t going to say anything until after Baby Beck was born.”

“Why not?” Tess hugged her and pulled Lyric in too. “This is amazing news!”

“We’re thrilled for you!” Happy tears gathered in Lyric’s eyes. “How’re you feeling? When are you due?”
