We all wave Dane and Kendra off, and catching me by surprise, Jesse takes my hand and leads me into his house. He gives it a squeeze and offers me a reassuring smile. He’s really come to know and understand my anxieties in such a short time.

“I’ll make us some coffee and get your father.”

His younger brothers come racing down the stairs, clamoring for Jesse’s attention, but stop abruptly when they see me.

“Oh hey,” the younger one says.

“What, you’ve never seen a girl before?” Jesse teases and puts him in a headlock. “Josie, this is Jaxon.”

“Hey,” the older boy says, playing it cool and running his hands through his hair, much like Jesse does.

“And this is Justin.”

We all exchange pleasantries, and for the briefest of seconds, as his brothers fight for his attention, telling him all the things they want to do this weekend, I wonder if I should be here. I inch back a bit, about to retreat into myself, when Jesse captures my hand. It’s crazy how well he can read me. That’s probably what makes him a great hockey player.

“Let’s take our stuff to our room.”

His brother’s grumble as Jesse tells them what we have planned this weekend—mainly meeting up with Kendra and Dane for the haunted house and haunted corn maze—and goes on to reassure them he’ll hang out with them later. We head upstairs, and he guides me to his bedroom. Our bags land with a thump on his bedroom floor, and I turn at the sound.

The second my gaze shifts to his and I see heat and hunger, my heart jumps into my throat. I take a fast breath as he takes two big steps and closes the distance between us. My blood fires, the temperature in the room jumping a few degrees as he pulls me to him and puts his lips on mine, like it’s been something he’s been thinking about for a very long time.

I kiss him back, melting against his body as the intimacy in our relationship goes from zero to six million in two seconds. His tongue tangles with mine, and he puts his hand on the back of my neck, angling me, his tongue plays and tastes the depts of me.

My God, I never thought our kisses could be hotter than that first one on the floor of the boat, but I was wrong, and I’m so happy about that. He grunts into my mouth and the deep, needy guttural sound sends heat through my body. It settles between my legs and my sex tingles, wanting so much more…everything. His cock presses against my body and for a split second I think he’s going to lay me out on his bed and have his way with me, until his mother’s voice sounds from downstairs.

“Coffee is ready.”

Jesse breaks the kiss, and his face is tortured as he gazes at me. “Do you have any idea how long I’ve wanted to do that?” he asks, as he takes a harsh breath.

“Why haven’t you?”

Something dark, almost pained and confused moves over his face, like he’s fighting a demon only he can see. “We haven’t been alone.”

No, we haven’t. Every time we go out, we’re with Dane and Kendra. “I’m looking forward to alone time this weekend,” I tell him, wanting him to know exactly where I am in this relationship.

“Yeah, me too.” He angles his head as dishes clang downstairs. His shoulders sag and he exhales. “Ready to hear all the horrible stories about me?”

I laugh as he teases. “Jesse, they all adore you. It’s easy to see that.”

He perks up. “Mom already loves you. We all…” his words fall off and omigod, what was he going to say. “We should go.”

I nod. “Wait, are we sharing this room?” My heart lurches, excited by the idea of being in his bed with him, but with his family in the house…

He frowns and my heart drops. “As much as I want that, parents, my younger siblings…I have to be a good big brother and set a good example.”

“I understand that.”

He grins, like he has something up his sleeve, and before I can ask, he takes my hand to lead me downstairs, and I sort of love the way he keeps doing that. Like I’m his girl and he wants me close. We head down to find his mother and father in the kitchen. Carol takes a tray of muffins from the oven, and before anyone can introduce me to Jesse’s father, his brother comes running in as delicious smells fill the kitchen.

Justin reaches for one, and Carol slaps his hand. He yelps and tugs it back. “Guests first, Justin.”

He grumbles under his breath as Carol places a muffin on a plate and hands it to him. “Please give this to Josie.”

He turns to Jesse and grins. “Can I sit by her too?”

“Over there, little brother.” He points, and I grin at their playfulness, and glance at Jesse as he drops down next to me and shifts closer in a possessive manner. I’m not sure what is going on with him this weekend—maybe it has to do with the fact that we’re finally going to have some alone time, but I like it. I like it so much I want more of this Jesse.

Justin laughs as he circles the table and plunks down. Carol sets a plate of muffins on the table, and he snatches one up. Jaxon comes racing in and has half a muffin gone before he even sits down. I catch Mr. Campbell’s eye, and it’s easy to see how much he adores his boys. It fills me with warmth and longing.
