I nod, entering the dressing room parlor. Wow! Talk about bougie. This entire space is bigger than the dorm I shared with Winter. I’m blaming Kieran for even thinking about Winter today. He just had to bring her up.

I cross the tiled floor and enter the first dressing room on the right. Sure enough, it’s filled with clothes that are my size, or close to it, which is shocking.

“I knew Carlotta wouldn’t let me down,” Kieran says from behind me.

“You can’t be in here!”

“Can’t I? Try on the black dress first.”

He sits in the only chair, eyebrow lifted. I’m torn. I know I need new clothes, but I don’t want to undress in front of Kieran.

“Do I need to remind you that I’ve seen you naked?”

Ugh. Of course, he’d bring that up.

“This is different.”

“How so?”

“For one, we were at your house when you saw me naked. Not in a dressing room where anyone can walk by and see that there’s two of us in here.”

“For fuck’s sake. It’s not like we’re fucking, Ariel.” He gives me a wicked smile. “Unless that’s what you’re afraid is going to happen?”

I don’t have a response to that. I should, right? Like, I should be able to tell him firmly that I don’t think we’re going to have sex in this dressing room. Again, I’m reminded of my lack of underwear.

He snorts softly. “Let’s try another tactic. You are supposed to obey me without question. Do you need to be punished to be reminded of that?”

Thatputs me into action. I grab the black dress, pulling it from the hanger. Inhaling, I undress and slip the dress over my head.

“It looks good. What do you think?”

I turn so I’m facing the mirror. The dress is nice, but it’s not very flattering around my stomach area.

“Can I try on the other black one? The one with the sweetheart neckline?”

“Ari, you don’t have to ask me what clothes to try on.”

Our gazes meet in the mirror and we both smile.

“Okay.”

I take off the dress, hanging it back on the hanger and then try on the other black one. It fits much better and makes me look good. I turn, looking at my butt.

“This one is a yes. What do you think?”

I find his gaze trained on my breasts.

“Definitely yes.”

Well, okay then. Nothing like a look likethatto make one feel pretty dang good about themselves. I put it on the right and move to the next piece of clothing. After thirty minutes, I have more yeses than noes.

Kieran says, “You need some color in that bunch or people are going to think you’re in mourning.”

I laugh, realizing I do have more dark colors in the pile of yeses.

“Sorry, habit.”

“Why is it habit?”
