I’m sipping on my drink when a guy approaches me. He’s taller than me by a few inches. I’d guess he’s right around six feet tall. He’s built, like he works out, but not to the extreme. He has fair skin, dark brown hair, brown eyes, and a scruffy goatee. He’s dressed in jeans and a teal shirt that clings to his muscles.

He slides onto the empty stool next to me, smiling. “Hey there. I’m Flynn. Don’t think I’ve ever seen you here before.”

I smile back. “Anna, and I’ve been out of the country with my family.”

He leans in, taking a swig of his beer. “Nice. So, Anna, can I buy you a drink?”

“Actually, I was thinking about going to a new club a few blocks over.” I finish my drink and ask, “Want to come?”

“Oh, babe, you read my mind. Let me pay my bill and we can go.”

Iago comes over, looking between the two of us. “Closing your tabs?”

Flynn nods. “Yes, and I’ll pay for the lady’s bill, too.”

I say, “Thanks.”

He winks down at me. “I’m sure you’ll pay me back later.”

I’ve had just enough to drink that his words send a hot flare right to my core. Okay, so we’re both on the same page here. And this is what I need, right? A way to forget the shitty day I’ve had and maybe get off at the same time. God knows there’s still an ache between my legs that Odin created, craving to be filled. No! I willnotthink of that man!

Flynn hands me his phone, and I look at it in confusion.

“Put your number in.”

Oh. My cheeks are warm as I type in my number. He takes his phone and a moment later my phone dings.

“Now we have each other’s numbers, just in case we get separated.”

I’m smiling as I say, “Good thinking.”

Iago returns with Flynn’s card and Flynn puts it in his wallet. I notice the tip he leaves on the receipt. You can tell a lot about a person based on the tip they leave. And Flynn left a very nice one.

“Ready?”

I stand, and that’s when I sense it. My skin prickles and I feel like the prey about to be slaughtered by the predator. My breath hitches in my throat. There’s no way he’s here!

Flynn throws his arm around my shoulder. “Let’s go, babe.”

Everything feels like it happens in slow motion. We turn and my gaze goes right to Odin, who’s standing in the doorway with his own gaze narrowed on us. He’s still in the black suit from dinner, but right now it makes him look like Satan. Or maybe something worse. The music fades away until all I hear is a whooshing sound in my ears. A cold wave washes over me and I pull out of Flynn’s embrace.

“Whoa, who’s that dude? He looks like he wants to murder me.”

Before I can answer, Odin approaches, pulling me roughly to his side.

Odin stares down Flynn for a moment before saying, “I suggest you leave and never come back. And if I find out that you’ve so much as looked in the same direction as my stepdaughter, you will pay with your life. Understand?”

Flynn pales, holding up his hands in surrender. “Sorry, bruh. I understand.”

He backs away, but I barely notice because Odin drags me outside to a waiting SUV.

“Get in.”

I climb in the back and scoot over so he can slide in next to me. The SUV takes off, but the windows are so tinted that I can’t see where we’re going.

“Where are—”

“I suggest keeping your fucking mouth shut.”
