“Did I wake you?”

His words slur.

“Are you drunk?”

“Yes.”

I move closer. “Why?”

“The list is far too long and will only kill my buzz.”

“Does it have anything to do with moving me out of our room?”

He snorts, taking a long sip of whatever’s in his glass. “Among other things.”

“I have a few theories about why you did it.”

“Oh? I’m all ears,” he says, swirling his glass.

“I think you’ve realized a month isn’t enough time with me. I think now that Grandmama has decided to make a match that you don’t know what to do. And I think that you had my things moved because you’re scared.”

He finishes his drink and reaches for me.

The scent of cognac is heavy on his breath as he says, “And what would you say if I said all those things were true?”

“I’d say that you don’t have to worry because I understand that I’m yours.”

His gaze is tormented as he looks down at me. “I don’t deserve you, Anna.”

“Yes, you do. Now kiss me, Daddy, and then take me back to our room and make love to me.”

His lips crash over mine in a kiss that feels a lot like a goodbye. I shove the feeling aside. I’m just being paranoid. This isn’t a goodbye. I keep telling myself that as a heavy sense of dread settles over me.

Anna

The next day, Odin and I make love in the shower. And in the dining room. Now we’re in the living room and Odin feasts between my legs. I urge him on.

“Yes, Daddy. Just like that.” My breath hitches. “Fuck, I’m close.”

Odin doubles down until I’m screaming out his name. He moves over me, sliding into me before I can catch my breath. We’re fucking like this is the last time we’ll be together when I see something move out of the corner of my eye. I gasp as I see someone disappearing into the foyer.

“Odin! Someone is here!”

Cursing under his breath, he pulls out of me and puts his cock away before rushing toward the foyer. A moment later he comes back, a grim expression on his face.

“The guard said it was Elsa.”

“Grandmama was here?” I screech. “Oh, god. Do you think she saw us?”

His lack of answer says enough.

“I will take full responsibility if she did,” he finally says.

“Odin, that’s not going to solve anything. She’s going to blame me no matter what you say.” I stand, my eyes watering. “Oh my god. What do I do?”

“Breathe, baby girl,” he says, pulling me into his embrace. “We’ll say I was lonely, missing your mother.”
