“Age.”

“Twenty-one.”

“Favorite food.”

“Anything with carbs.”

“Kissing on the first date.”

“Never been on a date.”

“Never?”

“Nope.”

“Good thing we’re changing that today.”

I smile up at him. “My turn. Age.”

“Twenty-three.”

“Favorite animal.”

“Cat.”

“Kissing on the first date.”

He winks. “Guess you’ll have to wait and see.”

“Guess so.”

We play this little game until the ferry docks at the Saint George Ferry Terminal.

“Okay, you said you wanted burgers and I have the perfect place in mind.”

“Lead the way, good sir.”

He takes my hand, leading me outside, where he flags down a cab. Ten minutes later, I’m in heaven and can’t stop the moan that leaves my lips.

“This is the best burger ever!” I say as I chew.

I don’t even care that it’s only ten in the morning. Living off nothing but boiled eggs has given me an appreciation for this most perfect burger.

“Try the fries,” Flynn urges, pushing the basket toward me. “But dip them in ranch dressing first.”

“Is that a Texas thing?” I tease.

But the joke’s on me because it’s freaking delicious, too. I finish my food much too fast, leaning back to digest.

Flynn says, “I want to take you to one of my favorite places if you’re down?”

“Sure.”

He shoves the last of his burger into his mouth and digs out his wallet, paying for both our meals.

“Let’s go. I want to get there before it gets busy.”

A short cab ride later, we’re at the Snug Harbor Cultural Center and Botanical Garden.
