I school my expression. “I have no idea what you mean, sir.”

His eyebrow lifts. “It’s a funny story. Last night, I was at a club with my brothers when a text message came through from an unknown number.”

No! No! No!

“But what a lovely surprise it ended up being.” He leans down, speaking in a low tone, “And I meant what I said. We’re going to finish what we started.”

My skin feels like it’s on fire and I shake my head.

“I thought I was texting with Hans!”

“Ah, so you do know what I’m talking about.” He’s still close as he asks, “How many men have you shown that sweet pussy to, Anna? Has my brother seen it before?”

“Last night was the first night I’ve ever done anything like that, I swear.”

“You better be telling the truth, because if I find out you’ve lied to me, I’ll have them killed, just as I had the guard killed.”

My eyes widen. “You didn’t.”

“I did. Want to know why, baby girl? Because he touched what’s mine.”

My body has warring reactions to his words. He repulses me, but the moment he saysbaby girl, I feel an ache between my legs that I know only he can fill.

I stagger away from him.

“You’re a monster. Leave, or I’ll—”

“You’ll what? Tell your grandmother that you’re my source? That you showed me what a little slut you are and sent me a video of you playing with your pussy? Who do you think she’ll believe? Me or you?”

“I hate you.”

He snorts softly. “I’ve been told it’s very common for stepchildren to hate their stepparents. Don’t worry, my little ice princess, Daddy’s going to keep your secret safe.”

My traitorous bodylikeshim calling himself my daddy. What in the actual hell is wrong with me?

“You’re disgusting,” I hiss over my shoulder, taking the stairs two at a time as I flee from him.

There’s a part of me that knows he might follow. That, too, sends a sick thrill through me. But he doesn’t, and I reach the safety of my room, locking the door behind me.

What in the hell just happened? There’s no way that I was texting with Odin last night! I refuse to believe it. This is just some kind of sick prank. Grabbing my phone from my nightstand, I open Snapchat and send Hans a message.

Hey, did you send me the right number last night? I know it’s weird to ask…

Oh, shit. I sent you my brother’s number. Awkward!

Just landed in Australia. Talk later.

Looking back, even the tone of the messages is different. Hans’ messages are brief and not engaging. Odin’s, on the other hand…

I groan. No! He’s going to tell me he’s joking any minute, right? I’m willing to believe anything at this point. Anything but the truth.

My phone dings and I see a text from ‘Hans’.

Hans

I’ll allow you some time to process what happened last night, but this changes nothing in my mind. Sleep well, baby girl.

Cursing under my breath, I change the contact information to Odin’s name. It hits me that Hans didn’t offer to give me his number, either.
