I slipped into the hall and tiptoed past. He let out a horking noise that had me pausing and glancing back at him. He smacked his lips, adjusted his crotch, and fell back into a pattern of snores and grunts.

Hurrying down the hall, I found the stairs. I hadn’t run into anyone else. Could I be lucky enough to go out the front door? I’d have to go back to my apartment, get my shit, and leave as fast as possible. I needed to lose myself in the city.

I’d just left the last step when a man backed up through a door to my right. His hands were full, so he was using his hip to prop the door open so he could squeak through. Looking around frantically, I slipped through the nearest door.

A howl echoed around the room and I skidded to a stop right as three heads raised and glanced up at me.For fuck’s sake!Nico and Luca’s eyes narrowed as they spotted me, but my gaze was trained on the man they had tied to a chair.

His panic-stricken stare met mine. It was the weasel. The man I’d gotten my hit list and new IDs from. I looked over at Nico who was holding a letter opener. I watched as blood flowed down from the blade and over his wrist.

I didn’t know why they were torturing him, but I couldn’t save him and myself. I turned and started to leave.

“Havoc,” Nico growled from across the room.

The sound of flesh hitting bone had me looking back, even though I knew it was a terrible idea. Luca wiped blood off his knuckles. Nico was stalking toward me and the weasel was out cold from where the goon had pounded his fist into the man’s face.

My conscience prodded me. The weasel had helped me out when I needed it—sure I paid him for it, but it didn’t matter. I darted over to the side of the room and snatched up a lamp, yanking the cord from the wall.

“Back off,” I told Nico, pointing the lamp at him. He paused and his incredulous gaze went from my face to the object in my hand and back.

His lips spread into a smile and one dark brow arched. “You think that’s going to stop me?”

No. It wouldn’t, but I wasn’t going to make this easy. “Let him go.”

Now both of Nico’s brows were raised. Luca frowned.

“How do you know Paolo?” Nico’s voice was both amused and curious.

That was his name? “Let him go,” I repeated. Nico was far too calm. It was making me nervous

He crossed his arms, his shirt straining as it pulled taut against his chest. “And what’ll you give me?”

My brows dipped into a frown. “What?”

He chuckled. “If you want something from me, Guerriera, then you’re going to need to give me something in exchange.”

My eyes flicked over him then to where Paolo groaned as he woke up. “Sorry, bud,” I told him as I realized there was no way I could barter with this man. Throwing the lamp as hard as I could at Nico’s head, I turned and bolted. I felt bad that I was leaving Paolo to his fate, but I wasn’t willing to further risk myself for him. It was hell having my previous inclinations to help people war with my new self-serving nature.

The shattering of glass was the only sound for a second until I was slammed into the wall. Ringing filled my ears. Nico’s hard body was pressed against me. I dipped and turned. I was about to leg sweep him when he grinned. His face was pressed right next to me so I was gifted the full force of that smile. My mind blanked and all I could do was stare at him, stunned. His smile was genuine and it threw me off. He was gorgeous when he was all dark and broody, but that smile transformed his face. I had a feeling this man was probably as pretty as fucking Lucifer had been famed for.

Nico grabbed my leg, then used his own to sweep my other and I went down like a sack of potatoes. His huge body landed on top of me, knocking the wind out of me. My arms were jerked over my head as he pinned my wrists in one hand.

It occurred to me as I tried to catch my breath that he hadn’t been using all his moves when we’d fought in my apartment. He’d taken me down so easily this time it was fucking embarrassing. He’d been playing with me before.

Luca cleared his throat as he stood looking down at us. My face flushed because Nico was laying between my sprawled legs, his dick pressing against my core. Luca didn’t seem bothered by that fact.

“What do you want me to do with him, Boss?”

“Set him up in the back room. I’ll deal with him later,” Nico murmured, but his eyes were on me.

Oh, Jesus. He was looking at me like I was the last slice of pizza and he hadn’t eaten in a week. I struggled underneath him, trying to get some kind of positioning that would allow me to get out of this situation.

Nico ground his hips down, dry humping me. I had to fight the throb that started up in my pussy. No, no, no, I was not some horny teenager who couldn’t control herself.

The chair scraped as Luca dragged it and its passenger past us and out the door. He didn’t even spare us a glance as he went. It made me wonder how often Nico pulled this kind of bullshit that his men were completely immune to it.

Nico bent his head and inhaled. “I like my scent on you.”

I fought to free my hands, but he just tightened his grip. His other hand went to my hip then slid up under my sweatshirt and over my skin. Goosebumps broke out everywhere he touched. Why did he affect me like this? It wasn’t right.
