“Shut up.” My eyes are wide. “Please tell me you are fucking with me again.”

He laughs. “Sorry, not sorry. I may have heard something last night. Sounded a lot like moaning and maybe your name, not sure.” He wiggles his eyebrows.

I’m sure my face is damn near as red as it can get, because I can feel the heat on my skin. “Dad, it’s not funny, please tell me you’re joking.” I know he’s not, but I want him to pretend, for at least Bliss’s sake.

“Who’s Bow?” He chuckles, and I want to die. “Oh, I think I heard you call her Arrow so I’m guessing you’re Bow.” His chuckles turn into a full-blown laugh. “How cute is that!”

Actually, I’m dying now. “It’s not funny,” I grit out. “Please tell me mom didn’t hear.” I pinch the bridge of my nose, trying to calm down.

My dad shakes his head, settling down from laughing so hard he has to catch his breath. “Nah, just me. You know she wears ear plugs at night.”

Oh, thank God, I think if she heard I would have to sneak us out of here and try to make something up to Bliss on why we can never see my family again. I’ll have to throw the whole house away. She would kill me if she knew, but I had no idea he would have lied to me all those years ago. Actually, I can’t be surprised, my dad is like a child, and this moment makes me realize how much I missed him.

A laugh escapes me as I walk around the sofa and sit. “Dad, please don’t say anything. Bliss will murder me.”

He turns serious. “I would never.” Then he smiles. “Not after you Knighted her. Get it?” He laughs at his own joke.

I facepalm myself. “Yes, I get it, now please stop.”

“Okay, fine, I’ll be serious.” He takes another sip of his coffee. “We like her, she seems good for you. She’s very smart, but then again, she picked you.”

“Wow, thanks, Dad.” I mock hurt, glaring at him. “I like to think I’m a catch.”

“Sure, you are, Son.” He waves me off and picks up the newspaper. “Glad to have you back,” he adds, and I feel guilty.

I was an asshole not to visit them for so long, to put them through that. They have been so understanding, even when I wouldn’t answer their calls, just because I was surrounded by my own self-pity. I’m trying every day to be a better boyfriend, a better friend, teammate, and son. I don’t ever want my parents to question my gratefulness, because I’m thankful they never gave up on me. I’m grateful because they hired Bliss, and because of her, I’m smiling from ear to ear, bringing me back from the darkness.

“I love you, Dad,” I blurt out.

He lowers his paper slowly, his hazel eyes blinking back in shock, but he recovers and smiles. “I love you too, Son.”
