Then, with one last thrust, Dane rams himself all the way back in this pocket he’s dug, his arms turned outward, every muscle on his frame rigid like he’s being electrocuted, his head thrown back in a roar.

And I’m shrieking, blasting, exploding outward, every bit of me clamped around every bit of him.

REMI

Ifind my dad’s shirt on the floor, and Dane lends me a pair of his pants even though I never returned the others.

Dane pulls the soft plaid shirt up on my shoulders, buttoning the buttons for me. He does it carefully and gently, like I’m an invalid, and it’s such a contrast to how he behaved ten minutes ago that I’d laugh if I could do anything but sway on my feet.

He kisses me softly on the mouth then looks into my eyes like he’s checking for concussion.

“Are you okay?”

I kiss him back, deep and not at all soft.

“I’m way better than okay.”

“Thank god,” he says in relief. “Jesus, Remi, I don’t know what got into me; I’m like a fucking animal around you. I don’t want you to think that’s what I was like with Lila because I wasn’t. I’ve never gone to that extreme before.”

In the strangest way, that pleases me. I don’t want Dane to be like that with anyone but me.

“I don’t think anyone’s done that before,” I laugh. “Or at least, they didn’t come as hard as me.”

“If they did, they’re too dead to tell us.” Dane grabs a hand towel from the bathroom to mop down his neck and chest. “I barely survived.”

“You should try being on the receiving end.”

“Is that what you’re into?” Dane gives me a naughty look as he tosses me a fresh towel.

I laugh. “It wasn’t before, but now I feel like you kind of deserve it.”

He shrugs. “I’ll try anything if it involves you naked.”

My face colors all over again, and I can’t seem to find a response.

“What’s wrong? Was that too much?”

“No.” I shake my head. “It’s just…”

“What?”

“Sometimes I can’t quite get it in my head that you’re attracted to me.”

Dane frowns, the towel pressed against his chest. “Remi, do you really not think you’re beautiful?”

“Beautiful!” I snort. “Cute, sure. But also, a fucking mess and a broke-ass bitch and a B+ student. While you’re some gorgeous doctor who probably doesn’t even need to work ‘cause it looks like your parents were a hell of a lot better than mine at financial planning.”

“There’s more than one kind of intelligence,” Dane says. “Watch me try to build a piece of furniture or even put one together from IKEA, and we’ll see who looks like a fucking idiot. The money shit—who cares. That’s luck of the draw. And as for you being ‘cute’…”

He crosses the room and takes me in his arms, pulling me against his bare chest.

“I haven’t been able to take my eyes off you since you stepped out of your car.”

He kisses me until my body gets warm and heavy and I go limp in his arms.
