That’s probably why my hormones have been a little overactive where Sullivan is concerned.

He’s probably not even that good-looking, all surly and brutish. If I’d had sex recently, he’d only be a…sigh. 12/10.

He’s picking me up this morning so we can drive to the dock together. You know, like a boyfriend and girlfriend would do.

I’m wearing what I usually wear to go on the yacht, which is longish denim shorts and a top that looks nautical. I mean, it’s a T-shirt with red stripes on it, so maybe I look more like a gondolier, but it still works.

Or at least, that’s what I think until Sullivan knocks on my door twenty minutes early.

I’m surprised to see he’s got two coffees in hand, plus a grease-spotted paper bag with something heavenly smelling inside.

I can’t remember the last time somebody broughtmecoffee. It feels, somehow, even fancier than the fact that I’m about to get on a yacht.

“Thanks.” I take a sip. “Whoa,that’s good.”

“Wait until you try the sandwich.” Sullivan thrusts the paper bag into my free hand. “It’s just a hole-in-the-wall place, but they make the best bacon egg croissant in the whole damn city.”

“The whole city?” I’m laughing until I take a bite. Then I’m instantly converted. “Oh mygod!”

“Told you.” Sullivan grins. “Pretty sure I’ve tried them all, running around to early-morning appointments.”

“Are you with an agency or something?”

“I was.” Sullivan scowls. “Now I’m out on my own.”

“Sounds like it didn’t end well.”

“No,” he says shortly. “It didn’t. And it didn’t start well, either—my boss wouldnotstop calling me Rocko the whole interview.”

I chortle, spitting a tiny amount of croissant out of my mouth onto Sullivan’s sleeve.

“Oh, god.” I brush it off. “I’m sorry. But that’s really funny.”

“It is around the first twenty times,” Sullivan says wearily.

“I’m surprised anybody even remembers that show.”

“I really wish they didn’t.”

I smile, thinking it’s nice to know that not everything in Sullivan’s life is absolutely perfect. Makes him seem just a little more human.

“What’s Reese up to these days?”

“Filming some HBO show in Sumatra.”

“Oh, wow! So he’s still acting?”

“For anyone who’ll let him—and I mean literally anyone. His last pilot was filmed up in Northern Canada.Mounties and Moose,I think it was called. OrMounties Getting Mounted?I can’t remember. Obviously, it got cancelled. They all get cancelled.”

“Poor Reese.”

“Don’t feel bad for him. He’s doing what he loves. And he’s got a pretty good role on this next one, or so he tells me.”

“Did you want some of this?” Guiltily, I hold out the last remaining scrap of sandwich to Sullivan.

“I already ate mine.” He eyes the tiny bite remaining. “Luckily.”

“Sorry,” I pop it in my mouth. “It’s just so good.”
