I snuggle closer to Sullivan and rest my head against his chest. I play with the buttons on the front of his shirt in a way that’s ridiculous and not how I would ever behave in a public place. But that’s fine; I’m not the normal Theo right now—I’m the version of Theo who snagged a guy like Sullivan. And she can do whatever the hell she wants.

Jessica is highly suspicious.

She’s met the normal Theo. She knows I have no game.

And she knows I’ve definitely never had a boyfriend this hot before.

“Sullivan…,” she says. “What do you do?”

“Property acquisition.”

Her eyes flash. “Isn’t that convenient…Angus is looking for a property right now.”

This is exactly what I was afraid of. As someone who built a career siphoning money off wealthy men, Jessica is extremely sensitive to anyone else attempting to milk her favorite cash cow. She’s already on to us.

But all Sullivan says is a mild, “So I heard.”

Jessica’s pale green gaze darts between us. She’s incredibly beautiful, but there’s something reptilian in her stillness and coolness, in the smooth shine of her skin.

She knows this whole thing is fishy.

I’m starting to sweat.

“And you two have been dating for…four months?”

“Six,” Sully corrects her.

“That’s so weird that Theo never mentioned you.”

She definitely knows. Shit!

Sully gives nothing away. His calm is uncrackable.

“Theo’s a private person…” He trails his fingers lightly across my collarbone. “She’s full of surprises.”

Angus slugs back the martini in his hand and signals to the waiter for another. “Not to me—I can read Theo like a book.” He snorts. “One with illustrations.”

The illustration on my current cognitive page is a big middle finger thrust in Angus’ direction. But I guess he’s not quite as good at reading my mind as he thinks because when I focus on that image with all my might, all Angus does is smile at me.

I give the waiter my drink order. Sullivan does the same. Angus asks for another martini, but Jessica switches to bourbon like Sully.

“Sounds delicious,” she coos in the softly sensual voice she usually reserves for asking favors of Angus.

“It is.” Sullivan brushes the hair away from the nape of my neck with long, slow strokes of his fingers.

His touch is incredibly relaxing. I love sitting in the curve of his arm, in the warmth of our side of the booth. I feel safe and protected from Jessica, even though she’s glaring at me from only two feet away.

I’m not sure what she’s so annoyed about, but I’d guess it has everything to do with Sullivan. There are a lot of beautiful girls in the world, especially in LA. Not as many beautiful men—not like him. Sullivan stands out like a unicorn. I bet Jessica finds it offensive that someone as gorgeous as him is with a nobody like me.

Of course, Sullivan isn’t actuallywithme at all.

But she doesn’t know that.

She only suspects it.

And it seems to be driving her insane.

Mouth tight as an anus, she says, “Angus told me you two moved in together?”
