“Good morning, Sir,” Sue, the civil assistant clerk, says as I walk past her. She’s eight months pregnant with her third or fourth kid. She seems to have a bunch, if the pictures of smiling, happy kid faces on her desk are any indication.

“Good morning, Sue. How are you feeling today?” I ask with more mirth than I am feeling.

“I feel about as big as a house,” she says laughing.

“You just let me know if you want to start maternity leave a little early,” I tell her, chuckling.

“I will, but at this point, I’m a pro,” she says patting her baby bump and suddenly all I can see is Taryn round with my child. It dawns on me that I didn’t use a condom with her, not that I had any lying around, to begin with.

I breeze past Cora, the criminal assistant clerk. I get by with just a wave, thankfully, because she’s on the phone. She talks a lot. I always seem to waste at least a half an hour whenever she starts talking, most of the time, it’s more.

Heading into my office, I shut the door behind me. I hate the fact that I don’t have enough information to give Archer so that he can look into Taryn for me. When I first got to town, about three years ago, some of the local law enforcement guys took me under their wings, while I was a lawyer. They had a meeting where we could talk about our jobs without the stress of the job beating down on us. After I was elected to my current position, I’ve had less and less time to get together with the guys. I have higher political aspirations, but right now they couldn’t be farther from my mind. Somehow, someway, I’ll get her back.

Getting to work, I try to push her from my mind, but I can’t stop thinking about her and her curves. Her pussy. My pussy. She saved herself for some reason and gave herself to me, a stranger without a second thought. Why would she do that? She jumped in headfirst. She had to feel the pull between us too, so why did she leave? Despite the short amount of time we were together, I fell head over heels in love with her and there will never be another woman for me as long as I fucking live. Damn it, I think, pushing the papers I am going through away from me in frustration. This day is shot. Maybe I should go back to the bar in order to find her. Maybe Joe remembers her last name from when he carded her.

After work, I go to the bar, but Joe can’t remember her name, so I go home, defeated. This isn’t like me. I am a take-charge kind of man. Feeling helpless is new and I can’t say that I care for it.

As soon as I walk into my hotel room, I am overtaken by the scent of her perfume. It’s light and airy and so her. It was on my sheets and now it’s in the room. I’ll never be able to sleep in here without her now. When your life changes so profoundly, it’s hard to go back to the way things were before. Kicking my shoes off, I take my suit off and throw on some joggers. Settling in on the bed, with her scent all around me, I can’t help thinking of Taryn. My cock hardens in my pants and I pull it out stroking it until I come thinking of her tight, wet, cunt wrapped around my dick. I pull my t-shirt off over my head and use it to clean up the mess I’ve made.

Fuck, I have to find her.

Claiming her didn’t exactly go as planned. If I had my way, she’d still be in my bed right now while I feast on her delicious pussy. Fate wouldn’t have given her to me only to take her away. I refuse to accept that.

Chapter Five

Taryn

“For the record, how do you plea, Ms. Roberts?” Judge Allenson asks me. Do I really want to drag this out? It’s been six more weeks tacked on the initial three years I waited for trial. I’d heard that he’s a harsh judge, but I opted to not have a jury trial. I just want this over with. Maybe prison is for the best.

“Guilty,” I whisper, deciding that I’m done with this. One way or another this ends.

“Louder, Ms. Roberts.”

“Guilty,” I say louder.

“Very well. A directed verdict of guilty is on the record,” he says. “Anyone opposed to moving into the sentencing phase now?”

“No sir,” the DA says.

“No sir,” my lawyer, Anna, says.

“Ms. Roberts, I firmly believe that you were in the wrong place at the wrong time. I am hereby sentencing you to non-reporting probation for four years. In that time, you will keep a job at all times and pay restitution of eight thousand dollars. This is jointly with the other defendants you were arrested with. The amount owed is much higher, but I’ll be dividing it up equally amongst you. Probation may terminate early once paid in full. If you have no additional offenses for the next four years, I will expunge the record. Choose better friends, Ms. Roberts. These ones didn’t hesitate to throw you under the bus. Do you have any questions?”
