I laughed, cutting her off. “You would never lie? Then what the fuck is this?” I asked, motioning between us.

“I—” she started, but again, I cut her off.

“When did you decide to take Allison’s place and marry me?”

It was a simple question.

Her eyes widened, hurt brimming on the edges of her lashes with her tears. I wanted to be mad at her. I wanted to rage against her and punch a wall for her betrayal, but I couldn’t because the truth was, I had never been so relieved in all my life. This meant I didn’t have to go back to Allison. It meant the only woman I needed was the one I was married to.

“Allison came to me right before the wedding and said she couldn’t go through with it. What Allison wants, Allison gets. You know how she is.”

“Did you set out to hurt me?”

She moved closer to me, reaching out without actually touching me. “I never wanted to hurt you. You’ve been my dream for as long as I can remember, but I wasn’t the one you wanted.”

“How would you know what I wanted, Addison? Neither of you even thought to ask me?”

“What do you want, Wyatt?” she asked.

I moved toward her, pulling her into my arms. “I want the woman I fell in love with in Bora Bora. The woman who swims with sharks and flies beside me. I want the woman I made love to with my heart and body every night until she left.”

She choked, more tears rushing over her cheeks before dripping from her chin. I cupped her cheeks, wiping away the tears from her beautiful face.

She closed her eyes tightly, clenching them so hard the tears stopped.

She was the one who rocked me. She was the one who sent me spiraling into an out-of-control, reckless sort of love that had consumed me completely.

Running my thumbs over her closed lids, I leaned in and pressed a kiss to her forehead.

“Don’t shut me out, Angel. I only want the woman I married back.”

Her eyes opened, red and puffy from her tears. “You married Allison.”

“No, I married you. No matter the reasons, Addison, I married you, and I’ve wanted you every minute of every day since. You left me. You said you loved me, but you left. Why? What did Allison have over you?”

“She said if I didn’t switch back, she’d tell everyone. I couldn’t take that chance. I couldn’t risk an annulment or a divorce. My father was dying without treatment. We spent everything we had on his medical care. We needed your money for his healthcare. I love my father, Wyatt. I would do anything for him. I’m sorry. I hope you understand. I love you, but I couldn’t let him die so I could be happy.”

She covered her mouth, her cries getting louder. I couldn’t take it anymore. I needed her in my arms. Pulling her to me, I let her cry on my shoulder, rubbing her back softly. “Shh, it’s okay, Angel. Everything’s going to be okay.”

“I-I never meant to hurt you. I know you probably hate me, but—”

I pressed a finger against her lips, stopping her.

“I could never hate you, Addison. You’re everything to me. Just make me a promise.”

She looked up, her tears drying. “Anything.”

“Promise me you’ll stop listening to your sister. I know you love her, but she uses you. Never let her come between us again. Promise?”

She nodded. “I promise.”

My palms slid down her arms, and I pulled her closer.

There was one more thing we needed to clear up, and then we could forget about all the drama and just be happy together.

“The baby. I know you weren’t with anyone when we came back from Bora Bora, but did you …?” I couldn’t even finish my sentence.

The thought of another man touching what was mine made me feel sick in my gut.
