“P-pl-please st-stop.” Harvey whimpers in between screams. “P-please don’t. You don’t need to do this.”
I briefly pause my nail extraction and gently pat his cheek. “Oh Harvey, but I do. I really do.” And with that I proceed to fulfill every promise I made. Not stopping until the last flicker of life leaves his eyes. Only then do I take a breath, finally feeling like I can breathe again.
This is what I needed.
“Thank you for your sacrifice Harvey.” I place a hand over my heart and bow slightly to show my gratitude. Then I begin the clean up.

The Blood Shadow has struck again. We have confirmation that another body has been recovered, just as brutalized as all the others. As with each of the other victims, there is no way to accurately identify the remains due to the disfigurement of the corpse. I stop reading, feeling sick to my stomach.
How am I supposed to keep living here with this psychopath around? What if I wasn’t just being paranoid that night? What ifI’mnext?
I drop my head down onto the table and try to take deep breaths. It’s not going to help anything to have a panic attack right now. I have responsibilities and errands that can’t be put off.
I give myself a few more moments of silent panic before straightening, mentally slapping myself, and squaring my shoulders.
I can do this. I am a twenty-nine year old woman, fully capable of going into town without getting murdered.

Feeling slightly more confident, I stand and make my way back to my room to get ready.
Pulling into the parking lot, I make sure to get a spot close to the front and avoid parking next to any vans. My safety tip of the day,neverpark next to a van. It’s way too easy to be abducted as you are trying to get into your car if someone decides to slide open the door and yank you inside.
I take a deep breath and slide my keys between my fingers before exiting my car.
Man, I really am on edge.
It makes me feel a little better, though, knowing I can jab a key into someone’s eye with my fist if they try something. Giving myself time to grab the pepper spray on my keychain and spray it before running like hell.
Yup, not paranoid at all.
I make it into the store without having to utilize my powers of self defense. Once I grab a cart and make it past the security entrance, I feel safe enough to slip my keys into my jacket pocket - still easy access if needed.
Making my way down the different aisles and grabbing what I need, I’m lost in thought again. My mind keeps wandering back to steel blue eyes. Turning down the next aisle, I stop abruptly and reach up to scrub my face.
Peeking between my fingers, I’m positive I’ve lost my mind. Or developed the power of manifestation. Because, standing in front of the display of canned beans, is the Greek god-like man I’ve spent every moment obsessing over since our awkward encounter a few weeks ago.

I shake my head and lower my hands. Trying to look less like a crazy person, I make my way down the aisle to grab the next item on my list. Glancing at my note, I groan internally.

I quickly look over my cart and see I’ve already got most of the ingredients andreallydon’t want to have to put them back. I also can’t afford to just be buying food I’m going to have to throw out.

As I’m making my way toward the display, Mick glances up and notices me. He doesn’t just look my way. He’s full on staring at me, as if he can see into my soul. I’ve never felt so exposed from just a look. His gaze slowly travels down my body and I can’t stop the shiver that runs through me. His mouth ticks up in a smirk as he raises his eyes to mine.
