I lean back against the wall, watching as students exit the classroom. My eyes narrow when he walks out.

The boy fumbles with his bag, shoving loose papers inside. Closing the flap, he looks up and locks eyes with me, visibly swallowing.

I smile at him, pushing off the wall. “Tyler.” I call, closing the distance between us. He doesn’t say anything, staring at me withwide eyes. Stopping directly in front of him, I gesture toward the parking area. “Let’s chat.”

I wait for him to stumble forward, following closely behind to make sure he doesn’t get any ideas. Tyler throws nervous looks over his shoulder at me the entire trek. Once we reach the parking lot, I click my key fob, making my car beep. Nodding my head in the direction of the vehicle, I indicate for him to continue.

Gulping, Tyler shuffles toward the car. He still doesn’t say anything, even as I open the passenger door and encourage him to take a seat, quietly shutting the door behind him.

Can’t draw too much attention.

Rounding the vehicle, I climb into my seat, staring out the windshield.

“Look, I’m sorry man.” Tyler blurts.

I don’t look at him as I calmly ask, “Sorry for what Tyler?”

He sucks in a breath, nervously tapping his knee. “Um. I don’t know exactly but I assume it’s about Av-” His words cut off as I snap my head in his direction.

Rage simmers within me and I use the nearly two decades worth of experience controlling my emotions while on the job to keep it at bay. “You don’t know.” I say slowly, quirking an eyebrow.

Tyler shakes his head, his face pale. “S-sorry.” He stammers.

I sigh heavily, cracking my knuckles. “Tyler, Tyler.” I tsk. “That’s the wrong answer, boy.” Snapping a hand forward, I grip his hair and jerk his head back. Leaning close, I whisper in his ear, “You hurt my girl.”

Tyler whimpers, tears welling in his eyes.

Pathetic.

Yanking hard, I relish in the pain that flashes across his face. With another sigh, I release him. Sitting back, I pull outmy handgun from the center console, casually inspecting the weapon. “You’re lucky.” I murmur, eyes focused on the gun.

“I-I am?” He stammers.

Nodding, I run my hand along the smooth metal. “You see, I made a promise to my girl and as far as I’m aware youtechnicallydidn’t give me a reason to break it.” Looking over, I point the barrel toward him. “But listen here, boy. If you ever, and I meanever, try to contact her again, I will put a bullet between your eyes.”

I watch him as he stares at the gun, his breaths coming out as pants. Clearing my throat, I draw his attention to me. “Am I making myself clear?”

Tyler nods wildly. “Yes sir.” He mumbles.

I hold back the laugh that threatens to erupt at the word, having a vastly different effect on me than when my little girl uses it.

Tucking my pistol away, I nod. “Good. Now go.” I don’t have to say it twice as the terrified boy scrambles from the vehicle.

Good fucking riddance.

“So, thoughts?” Andrew asks, looking between Arriana and me.

I sigh heavily, rubbing my forehead. It’s a good idea, a great fucking idea actually. And I hate it.

Arriana bounces in her seat, clapping her hands together. “I love it!” She exclaims.

Andrew beams at her, looking to me. “And you, Killian?”

I look between the two. “Well,” I drawl, lowering my hand. “I suppose we can try.” Arriana fist pumps into the air andAndrew’s grin is so wide I’m not sure where it ends and his face begins.

“Oh this is going to be so fucking cool.” Arriana chuckles, leaping from her seat as she snatches up the tablet. “Who woulda thought, old man?” Laughing, she spins in circles, clutching the device to her chest.

Mumbling under my breath, I fight back the smile threatening to break free.
