The Taliban couldn’t wipe the smile off my face. I push and pump into her, shifting my hips from side to side, stretching her out. I want the wince on her face to fade away. I circle and kiss her as we make love.

Once I know she’s fully enjoying it, I flip her over. The minx throws those curls over her shoulder with her green eyes blazing. My hands smooth over back, and my hips gain momentum. She mumbles my name and how good it feels. I press on the small of her back, pushing her from all fours down to her head nestled into the pillow, and her breasts against the mattress. Her ass is up and rising like the damn moon in the desert.

She takes all of me and my pounding strokes, panting, “Yes.” She holds theslike a singer holding the last note of a ballad. My heart rattles against my ribcage as her orgasm feeds me.

I wrap her hair around my fist, something I’ve never done. She relaxes against her high thread count sheet fit for the Princess of Wales, but I tug her to rise. “Lean on me.”

I’m resting on my heels still inside her with her back against my chest. Thrusting upward, with her hair in one hand and her breast in the other, she meets me stroke for stroke. We bump and grind until we’re both covered in sweat. Her damp curls stick to my skin. She hooks her arm behind my neck.

“I need…”

My teeth dig into her shoulder. “Tell me that I’m all you’ll ever need.”

Her pelvic muscles tighten around me as she screams, but it’s not my name on her lips.

ChapterTwenty-Five

VANESSA

“Ilove you,” I shout as he drives me straight to another world. My vision fractures into a million colored fireworks showering my soul. I love him. Now. Still. Forever.

His roped forearms wrap around my waist as a guttural growl rips from his chest. It feels as though my ribs are breaking, but as his body goes slack, I realize my heart is beating harder and faster than ever before. I can’t believe I elicited such a hungry and animalistic response from Beau. I’m practically ready for another round just from feeling the vibration on his chest.

Sex as an adult is so different, especially with someone you love. It’s like learning how to walk before you run. Beau is a damn triathlete—he’s mastered it all.

He collapses on my back and trails a path of soft, wet kisses along my neck. We lie down together with him still inside me, soaking up sexual euphoria but also the emotions of the past twenty-four hours.

The flesh of his lips skims my ear. “I need to take care of this.” He slides out of the warmth of my cocoon. He chuckles. “Only you could turn me into a human volcano.” He kisses my cheek and slips out of the bed.

He slides back into bed, cleaning me, ridding me of the cum sliding down my legs and coating my inner thighs. “Did you mean it when you said—”

I flip over so my breasts cozy up to his chest, putting my finger over his mouth. “I love you, Beau Landry. Never stopped, although I’m not sure why. You never gave me any hope that you still loved me. But even though you never contacted me, I still loved you. I had faced the fact that no man on the earth could fill the void you left. My future of being a celibate bourbon heiress was all I could think about.”

“A million more apologies won’t be enough to say how sorry I am. What you’ve had to live with since we were sixteen, knowing what Beckett was doing to himself. I wish you would have told me.” He runs his fingers around my hairline.

“Me too. But we made decisions based on the information we had at the time. None of us had the whole picture, not even Beckett.”

He threads his fingers through my hair and brings my mouth to his. But he doesn’t kiss me; he peers into my eyes. “We lied to each other, and that stops now if we’re going to have a chance. Nessa… I love you.”

Butterfly—no, dragonfly—wings flutter so fast it tickles my heart and soul. I’ve waited so long to hear those words again. With his arms around me, I will always be safe. With his love, I will never be alone.

When he claims my mouth, it’s not hard, fast, and hungry—it’s soft, slow, like he wants to savor this moment. We touch each other’s face, hair, and arms, keeping our “I love you” reunion PG. Our lips overlap with sweet gentle movements.

Once we pull apart, he rasps, “I love you. I’ve always loved you and will always love you.”

Happy tears fill my eyes. I squirm until I’m as close as I can be to every piece of his skin is fused with mine. “I didn’t get closure the night you left, but maybe it’s because it was never over. We were never over.”

“At the time, it felt like I had lost the other part of my soul. Being estranged from Beckett, even though we lived in the same house, was gut-wrenching. I didn’t know he was still hung up on you. He told me he wasn’t. He gave you up—for me.”

“Think of it this way. His feelings didn’t run as deep for me as they did for you, or else he would have fought tooth and nail to ask me out. If he wanted me, you two would have wrestled and thrown punches, but that never happened.”

Beau plays with my hair and brings it to his lips. “True. We fought over everything else.”

“Beau, when this is over with my dad. Let’s find him.”

“Mom and Dad know where he is. Early on they would tell me, but I asked them not to mention him. I couldn’t forgive him for fucking with our lives, but now that I know the truth, I want to fill the space that only my twin can fill.”

His watch vibrates against my wrist. I look down at the number. “It’s Maverick.”
