The sound of people talking and footsteps running towards them made them both turn. A small child in a pink coat with long dark hair in bunches grinned at them as she ran, chased by Morgan.

“Christie, come back here, you little monkey,” Morgan said, as she pretended to chase the little girl.

Christie ran straight up to Alex and flung herself at her legs, holding on for dear life as she moved around behind her, hiding from Morgan.

“Oh, hello.” Alex laughed.

“You have a new fan.” Goran grinned.

“Apparently, I do.” Alex tried to twist around but the kid just moved with her.

“I’m sorry,” Morgan said as she closed the gap. “She’s a little bit overexcited.”

“It’s fine. Morgan, this is Goran. Goran, my girlfriend, Dr Morgan Kelly.”

He held out a hand and shook hers when offered. “It’s a pleasure.” He looked over her shoulder at the small group of people working their way towards them. “Your family is here, so I will leave you. I have dinner plans before I am back here to witness the magic.”

“Thank you, Goran, we’ll speak later.” Alex waved goodbye just as Morgan’s family closed the space between them.

“ThatGoran?” Morgan asked urgently.

Alex nodded. “We’re going to work together.”

“That’s awesome. I’m so excited for you.” Morgan threw her arms around Alex’s neck and kissed her. “Oh, sorry, Alex, this is my mum and dad, my brother Mason and his partner, Alison, and this is Leanne, Christie’s mum, and obviously…you’ve met Christie.” The little girl was bored now she wasn’t being chased and slunk over to her mum to be picked up.

“Hi.” Alex smiled at them all. “Why don’t we all grab something to eat and get to know each other?”

“That sounds like a lovely idea,” Morgan’s mum said before adding, “I’m Steph, this is Gary.”

Morgan’s dad fiddled with the collar on his shirt before saying, “How do.”

“Okay, people.” Francine’s loud voice cut through the air. “Table’s booked and waiting for you all. You have two hours before your star needs to be back here. The rest of you are not required for another hour, so let’s go.”

She turned and led the way back down the long aisle with everyone following.

“All good?” Morgan asked.

Alex slid her arm around Morgan’s waist as they walked slowly behind everyone else. “Yes, couldn’t be happier. I’m excited. Tonight will be amazing, on stage and then…” She glanced at Morgan and smirked.

“The after-show party?” Morgan chuckled and kissed her cheek. “I’m looking forward to tonight’s euphoria.”

“Sweetheart, you have no idea what’s coming your way.”

“Is that so?” Morgan bit her lip. “I can’t wait.”

Epilogue

“And the award for Best Contemporary Classical Composition goes to…” The camera zoomed into the envelope, the famous fingers opening it, the paper being slid out of it and then, “Sasha, for ‘Euphoria.’”

It took a moment for it to register; as the audience rose up applauding, Francine nudged her on one side, Goran on her other side leaned in to kiss her cheek. She looked as though she were in shock as she finally stood up and began to make her way towards the stage and the coveted award waiting for her. “Euphoria” blared out of the speakers.

Morgan and her team crowded around the small TV, and all watched, slapping her on the back and congratulating her like she had done something spectacular.

“Wow, your song,” Pascal said. “Your song just won a gong.”

It was common knowledge since the release of the album that it was dedicated to Morgan. Alex didn’t shut up about it. Every interviewer would always ask, and she would happily tell them about the love of her life and the inspiration behind the music.

Morgan wiped a tear discreetly. Happy tears, of course.
