“So, you’re saying that I have to choose?” I test the water and Brent sucks in a breath, still looking at his empty plate.

“What we’re saying is that we all love you,” Hayden says softly. “And that we all want to do what is best for everyone. We want you to have everything you want baby, we want you to be happy.”

“So…”

“What doyouwant, Elle?” Lance looks at me with intensity.

All of you. I can’t say that right?

“You can say anything to us,” Hayden once again makes me wonder if he can read minds.

“You know I’ve always wanted you…allof you,” I mumble.

“What if you could have all of us?” Hayden asks and Brent’s head finally snaps up.

“That’sthe conversation we’re having here?” He turns an angry glare toward the other two.

They all seem to have a silent conversation as they stare off. Brent gets up, puts his plate in the sink and heads back toward his room without a second glance at me, the sound of his bedroom door slamming has us all flinching.

“Guess, we should have given him a heads up,” Hayden shrugs.

I keep staring at the hallway where Brent disappeared, feeling the crushing weight of guilt on my chest. Last night, we declared our love to each other, we made love, and we held each other aswe slept. Now here I was telling him he was just one of three men to hold my affection.

Before I know it, my feet are following after him and I can feel Hayden and Lance’s eyes on my back as I leave them behind. I find Brent sat on the edge of his bed, head in his hands and eyes on the floor. He doesn’t look up when I slink through his door and sit down next to him.

“I’m sorry,” I whisper, leaning my head on his hulking shoulder.

He’s silent for a while, to the point that I think he hasn’t heard me, until he huffs out a sigh and turns to pull me into his lap, nuzzling his face into my hair. His arms are like iron rods around my waist, keeping me firmly in place.

“Talk to me,” I thread my fingers through his hair.

“I want you so fucking much, Elle.” His hands travel up my sides, until his thumbs are skimming the underside of my breasts under his cotton t-shirt. This was the time for talking but my coochie had other ideas, fluttering at his light touch. By breaths become shallow, my mouth becomes dry, and I close my eyes.

“I want you too, Brent. So much.”

“I don’t want to share you.” He sounds so dejected tears prick at my eyes.

“I get that…I wouldn’t want to share you. I wanted to sucker punch every girl you brought home when we were at uni, and you weren’t even mine then.”

I feel his smile rather than see it. “Then there’s Lance and Hayden,” he continues. “You know they’re…well…um, I’m not sure if I should be telling you…”

“They’re boinking,” I summarise, making him chuckle.

“Okay, so you do know. If we did what Hayden was suggesting, the three of you would all be together and I would be on the outside, like a loser third wheel.”

His sad puppy dog eyes were breaking my heart but I couldn’t help laughing at that. “Babe, you would literally be the fourth wheel, and everyone knows four wheels are better than three. I don’t think your analogy works.” I stroke his hair and kiss his temple.

“I’ve always been more of a motorcycle guy myself,” he says into my neck as one hand eases up to palm my breast.

“With a side car?” I joke on a gasp as he pinches my nipple. He raises his brow to show how unamused he is. “What? It’s not like I’m suggesting an eighteen-wheeler!”

He growls, flipping me to lie on the bed and crowding me against the duvet. “I think that’s enough from you.”

“I don’t want you to feel uncomfortable, Brent. I’m not going to ask you to do anything you don’t want to do.” I stroke the side of his face, feeling the softness of his russet beard against my fingertips. “Last night was amazing and I meant what I said, I love you. But I’ve loved Lance and Hayden for just as long. Just as much as you didn’t want Lance to marry me and you have to watch me be with him, I don’t think I would have managed very long with them watching you live your life without me.”

“What are you saying?”

“I’m saying I don’t think I would ever have been happy choosing between you. I’ve loved you all for too long.”
