Avery snorts before she can stop herself, but Mia doesn’t like it. Or maybe she does because she hasn’t left.

"One," she sniffs.

She eats like a bird, and that’s something I don’t like. I nod at our usual waitress. My ten will be docked one but she can have the whole plate if she wants it. An insatiable need to watch her eat, to ensure she's full, consumes me. I lean into her, smelling the cherries which invokes the memory from holding her. "You good?"

Her eyes hold me, looking into parts I feel I've hidden away, not very well according to the way the green swirls. What does she see? Judging by her reaction to me, it’s not what she sees, it’s what she’s heard.Off Topichas a lot to answer for. If she gives me the chance, I can show her exactly who I am. "You asked me so publicly that I didn't have a choice."

I thumb a strand of hair from her face, the blush in her cheeks deepening. "Would you have come if you had a choice?"

“I never had a choice…”

I watch her teeth nibble at her bottom lip and squash the urge to bite it myself. “You can leave.” I gesture to the door, the shock of the table hits me.

“I’m not going anywhere, I want pancakes!” Avery glares at Mia. “Stay the fuck there and suck it up.”

Mia folds her arms across her chest and pouts.

Fucking.

Adorable.

And also a little scary.

These two could eat the four of us for breakfast, never mind the pancakes.

"Tree wasn't happy about this little breakfast meet," Avery tells us, ignoring the vibrating anger coming from Mia.

"Tree?" Sawyer takes the question.

"Willow." Mia cocks her brow and turns to me. “Care to elaborate or is that a name you’ve forgotten too?”

Who the fuck is Willow?I stare at my crew, perplexed.

Kit laughs. "It's a good nickname."

Sawyer takes the silent question. "She's the love interest of the week."

I scowl. "According to who?"

"Off Topic," Avery supplies.

I growl. "That podcast talks utter shit."

Mia bops her head in a non-committal way, and it has me fisting my hands on the table. The arrival of our pancakes saves everyone from the show I’m about to start. "Can I have an extra plate for M.I.A., please?"

The rose flush is cute. Betty, our waitress, brings her a smaller plate. I pick up a pancake and carefully put it on hers. She reaches for the syrup, ignoring the eyes, and leaves it swimming. I smirk as she hands me the bottle, and I, too, send my pancakes to sea.

"Do you think that you have a wolfy claim on her because you’re sharing pancakes?" Zac's voice carries across the place, riding on Momma's clouds of bacon, sweet syrup, and tangy strawberries. Mia's fork clatters to the table. She hadn't noticed him when she'd walked in, and now I feel a nervous energy vibrate through her body.

What the fuck is that about?

I glance at Zac. "Problem?"

"Plenty," he leers.

"We don't know anything about dick enhancers so you're on your own, mate. Amazon or eBay might be your best bet," Kit announces loudly.

A few people laugh as Zac steps closer to us. The move forces Mia to shift closer to me.
