Redhead steps towards me, whiskey and something sweet in her perfume, engulfs me."We had it all in hand.”

I nearly laugh but the situation doesn’t call for it.I believe she had it handled, I just wanted to be the one handling it, and pretty green eyes. “You’re welcome.” I return my focus to a face that has hounded my every thought.

My body vibrates with the need to pull her into me and hold her there, but I have a feeling she’s about as independent as her friends. My heart rattles hard in my chest as I watch the realisation dawn on her.Her hand rubs the arm where his prints are bound to be.I see the red marks. The flush that had been in her cheeks disappears and has turned a translucent white, the summer day green, already a little dazed."You okay?"

Her shaking fingers push her hair behind her ear."Yeah. Fine."

I can add stubborn to her growing list of things I like.

"What did he want?" Sawyer asks.

Red answers. "Mia. He's always been creepy, ever since…"

"He's just a creep," Mia interjects, giving her friend the side eye.

Finally. I have a name. Thick, beautifully curled lashes flutter.Shit. The only reason I can rush towards her so quickly is because I can’t take my eyes off her.Catching her before she hits the sidewalk, I quickly check that she’s breathing. We have to be first aid trained as part of the crew, but it’s not the first kiss I’ve envisioned.“Has she passed out before?”

Red shakes her head, worry swirling in the powder blue.“No. I’ve never known her to do this.”

Gently cradling her against my chest, I address Red, the other two are far too quiet."Where are you based on campus?"

"We're not. We live over near Harvard Square."

Nice and safe area, but we live a couple of blocks closer."We're closer. That okay?"

Red thinks about it, pulling her bottom lip between her teeth as she assesses her friend's condition and receives nods from the others. She nods, eyes narrowing. "Okay, but no funny business."

"None whatsoever," I promise.“Plus, you’ve told me that you can handle yourself.”

She smirks. "If I'm going back to yours, you should know who I am.Avery White."

I grin. "Nice to meet you.Austin Whitlock."

Avery laughs as we start walking towards ours."Oh, we all know that."

I guess being elite is helping in this moment.I want to keep this purely platonic, but the feel of her body against mine isn’t helping matters. Why is she so small? And why does she fit so perfectly against my chest? It’s probably not the best time to get a semi, is it?Her hair tickles my chin as cherries, rich and sweet, force me to breathe deeper.

Should a woman smell this bloody good?

How the hell am I meant to be a gentleman when she’s creating these animalistic needs in me?I mean, I’m turning into the fucking alpha that everyone has called me for three years.

I’m the alpha but only for her, it seems. A laugh grumbles in my chest knowing that she doesn’t even like me. This will be interesting. I need to focus on the plan, the one plan when we get back to the apartment, and that’s to get her into my bed.

Yep.

I know that nothing will happen tonight, I’m not an asshole, but the thought of her waking up in the morningshocked to find herself in a stranger’s bed is worth the aching dick pain I’ve got going on.

I’ll take the small wins where I can.

And the smell of cherries on my sheets.

CHAPTER TWO ¦ GOOD MORNING

?

Mia

My eyes snap open as sweat pings across my body. I take a moment to realize that I’m awake.
