I snort. "You wanna try?"

Kit winks. "You're not my type!"

"Let me guess, a red head with pretty jade green eyes is?" Sawyer teases.

Lucas throws his towel at him but keeps his mouth firmly shut.

"And Harry's apparently mine..."

"Why now?" Lucas asks with a sigh as he sits down on the floor, leaning against the wall.

"Mia?" Sawyer throws her name into the mix. "He's jealous."

Sawyer has put it together, which means others will, too.

"Fuck!" I push through my contacts and listen to it ring. What was I saying about things that keep popping up in our relationship? It's like our path together can't run smooth. It's one bendy son of a bitch.

Four rings... is she pissed off?

"Austin!" Mia gasps. "I’m so sorry!"

"What do you have to be sorry about?”

“He told me about it but I honestly thought he was bullshitting, and when I saw the video I thought it was a deep fake. I could have stopped him from posting it!”

I imagine her twirling her hair around her finger. A nervous habit I'm sure she's not aware of. “He would have posted it anyway… he… wait… what did you just say?” A fire sparks in my chest. She’s done it again. I fucking know it!

I hear her curse. "He was here outside the apartment—"

"I'm coming right now!" I hang up and look at my crew. "Family meeting at Mia's."

She's pissed off that I've called a family meeting. More so because she hasn't told her friends that Harry had accosted her on the run. Don't get me started on that either. For once, Avery's anger is warranted.

"You came back here and told us everything had been fine!"

"Itwasfine!" Mia argues.

My boys remain quiet. It's never wise to get in the middle of women arguing. It’s like stepping between two fighting pitbulls, one is going to rip your balls from your body and eat them right in front of you.

"He could have done anything to you! He could have hurt you, recorded you."

"But he didn't... and I had my pepper spray."

"Who gave you that?" I ask, breaking my own rule.

"I did," Avery snaps.

"And why would you need that?" Lucas asks Avery, tension vibrating around him.

Oh.

Shit.

There's nothing worse than a protective male, I should know.

"I have more than pepper spray." She looks pointedly at him.

A gun? Surely not? Why would she need it? There are elements to Avery I can't grasp. Sometimes I feel like she's part of the mafia, but that would be ridiculous. I shake my head. We're losing the whole focus of this conversation. Lucas has to deal withthat issue, if he wants to, at another time.
