August belonged to him. Yeah, he was a territorial, jealous, possessive fucker, and quite frankly, he didn’t give a damn. He’d played it safe, let August set the pace, and he’d been willing to grovel until his mate had no choice but to take him back.

The last five minutes had changed everything, though.

Grabbing August by the elbow, he jerked his mate out of the way and then pivoted, driving his fist right into his best friend’s face.

“Micah!”

“Don’t,” Micah warned his mate. “Don’t say anything.” Then he wrapped an arm around August’s waist, crushing him close as he slanted their mouths together in a heated, hungry kiss.

A low, fierce growl rolled up from his belly when August melted against his chest, opening to him with a lusty little sigh. Their tongues met and twined, sliding together in a sensual duel. Fuck, August tasted just as he remembered, felt just the same pressed so tightly against his body. It was like no time at all had passed, and yet, on some level, it all felt brand new again.

When the urge to gut and dismember his roommate subsided, he pulled away from August’s swollen lips, smiling at the dazed look in his mate’s glowing eyes.

“You remember where the bathroom is down the hall?” He tucked a strand of hair behind August’s ear and brushed a tender kiss across his brow. “Why don’t you go get washed up while I talk to Ian for a minute?”

“Okay.” August touched his fingertips to his bottom lips while he bobbed his head. “Yeah, right, okay.”

When he disappeared from the kitchen, Micah turned to Ian with an arched eyebrow. “So?”

“At the risk of another right hook, I think I’m in love.” Ducking out of Micah’s reach, Ian held his hands up and laughed. “Oh, get over yourself, dickhead. He’s smart, witty, and he’s tough. You can tell he’s been through some shit, but he’s still in the fight.”Ian sobered, looking Micah directly in the eye. “You better not screw this up.”

“I know what I want,” Micah answered with a pointed look toward the mouth of the hallway. “I’m glad you like him, and he seems to like you, but…just keep your distance.” He meant it as more of a warning than a threat, because he couldn’t control his instincts. “I don’t actually enjoy hitting you.”

“At least we agree on that much.” Ian rubbed his jaw. “I don’t enjoy you hitting me, either.”

“I can agree with that,” August said from the kitchen entryway. He had his head bent, and he fidgeted his fingers together nervously as he spoke. “Um, I think I should probably go.”

“So, you said Meredith had a date tonight?” Micah asked, ignoring any talk of August leaving.

August gave him a look he couldn’t decipher, glanced at Ian, and then frowned. “Uh, yeah, some guy she met at the shop today. He came in to sell something or buy something or…whatever. Either way, he left with a date.” He shrugged. “You know how Meredith is.”

While August spoke, Ian snuck out the back door with the steaks and his beer. Presumably, he’d had enough drama for one day. Micah did feel bad about punching the guy in the face, but really, Ian should have known better. Between aLobosand his mate was a dangerous place to be…especially if thatLoboswas a born Alpha.

“Micah…I don’t know what to say. I’m so sorry, and Ian…” Trailing off, August moaned into his hands. “Ian probably hates me.”

Confusion creased Micah’s brow, but he kept his voice calm and soothing when he spoke. “Why would Ian hate you, Ant?”

“Are you serious?” The hysterical laughter that bubbled through his lips scared Micah more than he wanted to admit. “I mean, unless you two are into sharing. Is that what this is? Because, I’m not really okay with that.”

“Sharing?” Micah’s upper lips curled, and his heart pounded heavily inside his chest. “I’m not sharing you with anyone.”

Jerking back, August whipped his head from left to right, his focus flittering from Micah to the open patio doors. “I thought…but you two…and then he…and you—” Finally, he stopped babbling and faced Micah with his arms folded over his chest. “Tell me what just happened? Why did you hit Ian?”

“Because I’m a jealous, territorial bastard who didn’t appreciate him having his hands all over the man I love.”

“The man you…” His nose crinkled adorably, and he began shaking his head as he paced between the island and the table. “Micah, I don’t understand. What about Ian?”

“What about Ian?”

“If this is some kind of freaky threesome thing, I’m really not interested, and if this is supposed to be some kind of joke, it’s not funny.”

Micah didn’t find it funny, either. He did, however, get the sense he’d missed something, because what August said didn’t make a lick of sense to him. “I have no interest in sharing you, sweetheart, and I definitely don’t want to have a threesome with Ian.” A shudder rippled down his spine at the disturbing mental image that thought conjured. “Why do you keep bringing Ian into this?”

“Because you love him!”

“I love Ian? Ian Conner? You think I love him?” He knew he sounded like a mental patient, but sweet hell, he just couldn’t wrap his mind around it. “Are we talking about the same Ian?” Micah rubbed the back of his head and snorted. “Really? Ian Conner? I mean, have you met him?”

“You live together.”
