I let her go.

Chapter Eleven

DOMINICK

I did nothing but toss and turn all night. I couldn’t escape the nightmares that were haunting me and the visions of Geneva that kept creeping up. I stumble to the kitchen because the only thing that will get me through the day is coffee. With my mug in hand, I fill it to the brim, and sit at the kitchen table and run my other hand through my hair.

“Would you like some breakfast, Dominick?”

“No, thank you, Belva. Thanks, though.”

She offers a nod, and I make another cup of coffee and head to my walk-in closet. Scanning my wardrobe, I pull on a pair of gray slacks, and a white tee shirt, adding a sweater over top of it. The season is quickly changing, and it is starting to get a lot cooler. I text Ramos to take the day off.

Grabbing my car keys on the way out, I slide into the driver’s side of my Ferrari, leaving the Bugatti behind. I hardly ever use my Land Rover since I get driven around by my driver in an SUV. Revving the engine up, I know exactly where I am headed.

I have to see her. I have to see the look in her eyes when I talk to her. I drive to her apartment building and park my car, I make my up to her door. Before knocking, I take a deep breath and try to bury the anger that is rising up to the surface.

I should have stopped for food because my stomach growls. I knock ignoring the stomach growls. There is a more pressing issue here.

The door swings open, and I’m caught off guard. Geneva’s mocha hair is down with big, bouncy curls.

She sighs. “Dom.” She looks past my shoulder, not meeting my eyes.

“Can I come in?”

I walk into her living room and sit on the couch. The look on my face must register to her.

“What is it, Dom?”

She sits down on the floor and looks up at me with a worried look on her face.

“Why did you leave so abruptly last night?”

“You know why. I can’t explain it again.”

“Do you know I would burn this fucking world to the ground for you?”

She laughs. Laughs!

She stands and bends down to face me. “You don’t have a fucking clue, Dominick. No clue.” She laughs again, and it’s really fucking irritating.

“What are you talking about, Gen?”

“I just want to know if you are playing some sick game with me?”

“What are you talking about?”

“When we went to your home…”

“Yeah.”

I laugh. “You took me into the lion’s den, Dom. So I’m wondering what is up your sleeve?”

“What am I missing here?”

“Your dad is my dad’s rival. And you could have gotten me killed.”

I stand. “Wait. Wait. I thought your last name was Castle.”
