“I love yours too.” She has rhinestones on her ring fingers.

“I’m afraid to get the stiletto shape, might poke my eye out or someone else’s. But they look great on you.”

Astera laughs as we make our way to pay for our nails, and she pushes me away. “I’m buying.”

“No. I’m going to.”

“Absolutely not. My treat.”

“Ugh, fine.” I knew there was no use in arguing with her.

“Now I want to go into a shop close by, to look at baby clothes.”

Even though it is cold outside, we decide to walk a short distance to the store. A bell rings above the door as we enter.

“This is so cute.” Astera immediately spots the newborn clothes. We oohh and aahh over the cute tiny human clothes, and the little booties for their feet. “It’s so freaking tiny,” I hold it up to show her.

“Oh my god, this black bow is adorable and would be perfect if I had a girl.”

“Super cute.”

We find some gender-neutral clothes as well that a boy or girl could wear, and sneakily, I put a few items on the counter to buy for her. We stop and look at the baby cribs as well. I think we spend an hour looking at everything before I go to the counter to make the purchases.

Astera spots me at the counter paying. “What are you doing?”

“Nothing,” I smile coyly.

The store clerk rings the items up, and I pay for them and then hand them to Astera. “Your first baby clothes,” I inform her.

“You didn’t have to do that.”

“I know. It’s going to be exciting to see you become a mom and Griffin a dad.”

“It’s a weird feeling.”

“And you haven’t had any morning sickness?”

“I haven’t. I don’t know if it’s too early, or maybe I’m just getting lucky.”

“Hopefully, you do okay.”

“Well, we have another stop to make,” she informs me. It’s already getting dark.

“Where?”

“You’ll see.”

We head back to the SUV, and she starts to drive. I have no clue where she is going, but I go along with whatever she has up her sleeve. Christmas lights dance on people’s homes, and their lawns are decorated with blow-up Santas and Snowmen, and I can’t get over how quickly Christmas is approaching. I have to think of something to get Hayden.

We arrive at the square of Blackridge Falls, and the Christmas tree is lit up right in the center of the town. Exiting the SUV, I follow Astera’s lead as we walk a short distance. That is when I spot Hayden and Griffin standing next to a horse and carriage.

“What is going on?”

Hayden closes the distance between us and takes my hand. “I thought we could all go on this and see some Christmas lights. I know you said Christmas is your favorite time of year.”

“Yes, that sounds fun.”

He offers his hand as I hoist myself into the back seat of the carriage, Hayden slides in next to me and places a cozy blanket on our laps. Astera and Griffin take the front row, and off we go.
