“Like?” Rowan wipes the grease off his hands.

I do my best not to give too many details because Claire really should be the one to tell him.

“Fuck, man,” Rowan responds, running his hands through his hair.

“I know. It’s fucked up.”

“I’m gonna go see her. You care if I miss the first few minutes of your fight?”

I shake my head. “Nah, man. If I can’t get through to her, maybe she will open up more with you since you are her brother.”

He holds his fist out for me to bump, then gets on his bike to head over to her place. Hopefully, she doesn’t get pissed, I told Rowan. With everything that happened to her, it’s too much to bear. The thought made me want to rage. She didn’t deserve to go through a single second of that.

A hand claps onto my shoulder. “Ready for your fight?” Griffin does some punching moves while bouncing on his feet.

“Yeah. I’m ready to fuck someone up.”

“Claire coming to watch?”

“Nah. Not tonight. Rowan might miss the first few minutes because he went to see her.”

“Ah. Okay. Well, Cutter and I will be right in your corner, okay?”

“I appreciate it. I need to grab my stuff, so I’ll meet you there.”

“Sounds good, man.”

Walking into my bedroom to grab my bag, and out of my peripheral, a figure appears in the doorway. One of the whores named Buffy approaches, “Want a good luck fuck?”

I smile. “I don’t think so. But thanks. Lock might take you up on the offer.”

“Maybe when you get back then.” She walks away without waiting for me to respond.

Most of the time, I steer clear of the whores, it’s not my thing. I have fucked two of them.

With my bag secured on the back of my bike, I load on and take off to the location. Taking the long way, the ride to Blackridge Falls Arena is welcoming as the breeze flows, allowing me to breathe in fresh air.

When I arrive, I spot my Uncle Frankie. “Hayden, my nephew. You made it.” Frankie reaches to slap my cheek in a loving Italian-family type of way. He is my cousin Everleigh’s dad and has basically been the father figure I never had. There has never been an event he hasn’t attended. But as he is aging, he is slowing down, so he doesn’t make every event nowadays, and I would never expect him to.

When I was in little league baseball, he coached me. And he sat with my mom on the bleachers at all of my high school basketball games. They never missed one. Being that we were so close, Everleigh and I have a close bond since we are each an only child. Often people would think we were brother and sister. And even though she’s two years older than me, I always towered over her.

“Uncle Frankie. Everleigh, you made it this time,” I bend down to hug her.

Did I mention she is the smartest person I knew? Because she is. She is the head nurse in her department at the hospital.

“I made time out of my busy schedule,” she smirks.

“I appreciate the support. And you are welcome to come by the clubhouse tonight after the fight.”

She smiles. “Maybe I will come by.”

Looking at my watch, the time reads eight p.m. “I have an hour to get ready. Do you know where your seats are?”

Uncle Frankie nods. “We are by Astera.”

Looking in her direction, I see her waving. I wave back. “Okay, I’ll see you guys after.”

“Good luck,” Everleigh states.
