With a sigh, she leaned back in the rocker. Before today, she’d never considered that her son was part of a family that owned a large spread. She’d only wanted to keep his identity a secret.

Blake lifted the baby to his shoulder and Wyatt gave a healthy burp. Then he put him back in his arm and continued feeding him.

“Would you consider having dinner with me tomorrow night? I’d like to take you someplace nice and for us to be able to talk and get to know one another. We share a child in common. No matter what, I want us to get along for him.”

Warmth filled Cristina and she remembered the night they met. They had skipped a few steps getting to know one another and gone straight for the home run. Maybe it would be a good idea for the two of them to learn more about each other.

A tingle filled her body and she realized that even after all these months, she still liked Blake. She still was attracted to him. But she wasn’t going to act on that attraction, even now.

“Yes, I like that idea,” she said. “Let me see if I can get my mother to keep him tomorrow night.”

He grinned. “So you’re going to accept the car?”

Shaking her head, she couldn’t help but smile. “Yes, but only because I had to pay for everything at Wyatt’s birth.”

“Thank you,” he said. “I won’t worry about you and him broken down on some freeway between here and DFW. Oh, and I need your phone number.”

They exchanged numbers and it felt so weird. This was what should have happened before they jumped into bed with one another. Not after they had a child.

After he’d put a sleeping Wyatt in his crib, he came back out.

Suddenly he pulled her into his arms. “Again, thank you for taking the car. But most of all thank you for Wyatt. I never realized how much having a child would affect me.”

The feel of his arms around her had her heart pounding in her chest. Desire flickered through her like an old engine sputtering to life. His arms were the last ones she’d experienced and they felt familiar and right.

With a sigh, she glanced up at him. “I’ll call you and let you know if my mother can keep Wyatt.”

“Good, I’d like to meet her,” he said.

She shook her head. “I don’t know if that’s a good idea.”

“It’s a great idea. She’s my son’s grandmother. If she can keep him, we’ll drop Wyatt off at her house and I can meet her at the same time.”

Already she could see that he was going to imbed himself in her life. Completely and totally.

She pulled out of his arms afraid that the next thing he would do was kiss her, and walked toward the door.

“I’ll talk to you soon,” she said as she reached the door and opened it.

A grin spread across his face, and when he walked to the door, he leaned down and kissed her on the forehead.

“Talk to you soon,” he replied.

Heat traveled from her forehead down her body. How the hell did this man have so much power over her? Why even now did her body respond to his and she wanted to feel his lips on hers?

With a sigh, she closed the door behind him. Tomorrow night was going to be difficult. But first, she had a phone call to make. A phone call she dreaded.

Knowing her son would not be down long for his nap, she picked up her cell phone and called her mother.

“Hi,” she said into the phone. “Do you have time to talk?”

“Sure, dear, what’s wrong?” her mother asked.

Oh, how she wished they were together in person. Part of her wanted to put Wyatt in her new vehicle and drive over to see her mother, but that would mean she would have to explain where she got the car.

And right now she wanted answers before she told her the truth.

“Mother, do you know who Wyatt’s father is?”
