“His ex,” Jace says at the same time.

“Dang, Larrabee. A hot sister, a hot damsel in distress, and now a hot ex. Tell us your secrets.” Levi hasn’t stopped staring at Lindsay since he sat down.

I have a feeling Levi would hit on a potted plant if it had blond hair and a pulse.

We’re there for maybe three minutes when another woman walks over. A short, brunette with a high ponytail. “You’re that guy.” She’s looking at me, angled sideways at the bar so her front is facing my left side.

I glance at her. “I am?”

“Yeah,” she bites her bottom lip. “The one who saved that girl.” Her voice is a bit high-pitched and forward.

Not something I could listen to on a regular basis.

“Oh, right,” I say. “Yeah, you got me.”

“I don’t. . .yet,” she says.

I turn to her. “Uh, what?”

“I saw you on TV,” she says, her eyes falling below mine. “It was so brave.”

I shift uncomfortably.

She narrows her eyes and reaches across me close enough where her body brushes up against my arm. She picks up a napkin, writes her phone number on it, and slides it to me.

I look at the napkin and give her a smile.

There’s a bit I can’t read under the phone number.

“What does this say?”

She leans in close and whispers, “It says ‘anytime.’”

Then, she walks away, throwing a last look over her shoulder.

The guys all react like a frat house during pledge night.

The woman is cute, I guess. And I know I’m supposed to take her up on her not-so-subtle offer. Not that many months ago, I probably would’ve.

But that’s not who I want to be. “Three-Date Owen” is getting old.

I’m not sure what’s changed.

“This is what it’s like for you, isn’t it?” Levi shakes his head and takes a drink of the beer the bartender brought over. “Unreal.”

I chuckle to myself, but my smile is short-lived because Lindsay is coming my way.

Levi rolls his eyes. “I’ve got no shot if I stay here with you. I’ll be over there.” He walks off, leaving me sitting with Jace and wishing I could get up and leave.

“Didn’t think I’d see you out tonight,” Lindsay says. She looks at Jace. “Hey, Jace. Long time.”

He doesn’t even look at her as he gets up and follows Levi. I’d feel bad for her if his disdain wasn’t warranted. She’s not going to get any love from my friends or my family.

Or me.

Still, I don’t want to fight with her. Honestly, she did me a favor. We really were a wrong fit. For some reason, I was too blind to see it. She sits down next to me, and my body tenses.

I hate that I’m not completely over it yet.
