“Hey, bro. Kate here has something she wants to say to you.”

“I’m sorry I threatened to hurt you and punch your pretty little face. I know it’s wrong to threaten family.”

“It’s okay, Kate. I deserved it.” I sighed as I stood up and hugged her.

“We’re meeting down at the beach. Let’s go,” Grayson said.

“Not tonight, bro. I just want to stay in.”

“Kate.” Grayson nodded.

She gripped my arm tightly and twisted it behind my back. “Let’s go, Kind. This is what we call a family intervention, and you’re going to be there.” She pushed me out the sliding door.

“Damn, you’re hurting me.”

We reached the bonfire, and she pushed me down in the chair.

“Hey, Kate.” Simon grinned.

“Hello, boys. My job here is done. Until next time.” She walked away.

“Fuck.” I rubbed my arm as I shot Grayson a look while he handed me a beer.

“Sorry, bro. I had no choice.”

“First Aunt Barb, and now you guys?” I stared at my brothers and cousins, who sat there glaring at me.

“My mother talked to you already?” Stefan asked.

“Shit.” Simon laughed. “I’m sorry about that, cousin. I know it was probably brutal. Anyway, tell us what the fuck is going on with you and Zoey?” he spoke in an adamant tone.

“She broke my trust.”

“How?” Conner asked.

“I asked her not to tell the girls about the boat, and she did anyway.”

“Are you serious?” Simon laughed. “That’s it?”

“The girls tell each other everything. If we got mad at them every time they did, we’d all be divorced,” Sebastian said.

“It’s good she told them. That means she fits into our family,” Shaun said.

“I think there’s more to it,” Sam spoke.

“Oh, by the way. Before we get into a serious discussion, did you know that Zoey was in a car accident?” Simon asked.

“I saw the damage to her car at the hospital,” I said. “She told me it was none of my business.”

“It happened the morning she left your house. I overheard one of the officers talking about it. She was so upset that she didn’t even get dressed first before she left. She was wearing her robe when she rear-ended the car in front of her. Then she told the officer something about a to-go cup and a note.” He cocked his head.”

“Fuck.” I shook my head. “So the accident was her fault?”

“Yes and no. She did rear-end some poor old man, but he said he didn’t see her and pulled out. He took full responsibility and got the ticket. Now, go ahead with your story,” Simon said.

“It was something you said to me Saturday on the boat.”

“What did I say?” His brows furrowed.
