He stared at me momentarily, and I could see the wheels spinning in his head.
“Nine months? Zoey, what are you saying?”
I lifted my shirt, removed the test strip from my leggings, and held it up.
“Surprise. It’s positive.” I fearfully grinned.
“You’re pregnant?” He took it from me and stared at the two pink lines.
“Yeah. It looks that way. Are you okay?”
“I’m going to be a father?”
“That’s the title you get when you impregnate a woman.”
“How did this happen?” I heard a hint of excitement in his voice. “I mean?—”
“I know what you mean. Let’s see.” I looked up at the ceiling. “Life’s been crazy with the opening of the bakery and moving in with you. With that said, I may or may not have messed up a pill here or there due to all the chaos in my life. But I always doubled up.” I held up my finger. “Are you mad?”
“Are you kidding?” He grinned. “You’re having my baby.” He picked me up and spun me around as our lips met. “How can I be mad about that?” He set me down. “How do you feel about it?”
“I’m happy, Carter, but I’m scared. What if I’m a shit mother?”
“Oh, babe. You’re going to be the best mother to our child. I love you so much.”
“I love you too.” My arms tightened around him.
CHAPTER 34
Carter
I couldn’t believe she was pregnant. I never expected it so soon, and I wasn’t complaining. Having a baby with the woman I loved more than anything in the world was just another blessing in my life. I knew what I had to do, and there wasn’t a moment to waste.
“Zoey?” I broke our embrace and cupped her face in my hands. “Will you marry me?”
“Excuse me?” Her brow arched.
“Marry me. We’ll get married while we’re here in Vegas with my family. It’ll be beautiful. I don’t want to wait. We can get married here and have a beautiful reception when we return to L.A. after Gabriel and Piper return from their honeymoon.”
“You’re serious, aren’t you?” Her eyes stared into mine.
“There is nothing in my life that I’ve ever been so serious about except when I told you that I loved you.”
“Yes, Carter. I would love to be your bride and marry you.” She smiled as tears filled her eyes. “I’ll even marry you at the courthouse.”
“Don’t be silly. We’re going to have a proper wedding. I’ll make sure of it.” I kissed her lips.
“Oh, my God. We’re here for Gabriel and Piper’s bachelor/bachelorette party.”
“We’ll still have time for that, and they’ll understand. Come on. Let’s go tell everyone the good news.” I grabbed her hand, and we left the suite.
Grayson and Ava stepped out of their suite as we entered the hallway.
“Perfect timing.” Grayson smiled as he hooked his arm around me. “Let’s get this party going.”
We met the rest of the family down in the lounge.
“Can I have everyone’s attention?” I voiced loudly. “Zoey and I have some news.” I glanced at her with a smile.
