“What are you doing here?” I grimaced, but I wasn’t firing on all cylinders just yet.

He smirked. “Is that any way to greet your twin?”

“For you, yes.” I shut the fridge with a clatter and dumped everything into the blender. “What do you want?”

Danny dropped into one of the chairs around our tiny dining room table, stretching his long legs out in front of him. He wore jeans and a plain black shirt that showed off the tattoos inked down his arms. Every time I caught sight of the designs mirroring my own, I had to swallow the urge to lecture him.

He leaned back and crossed his arms behind his head, seemingly oblivious to my shitty mood. “I need a favor.”

I snorted quietly. He always needed a favor. “What is it?”

“I have a test in Econ next week. You took that class last year, right?”

“I did,” I said slowly.

“I could use a stand in.”

“That all?”

“I’m also out of cash.”

I tilted my head back to stare at the ceiling. “How are you always out of money? You’re the one with a job.”

Danny didn’t answer right away, and when I dropped my gaze back to him, he pinned me with a sharp smile. “Not all of us got a fancy scholarship, bro.”

My hands were busy holding onto the blender, so I settled for a verbal smack down. “Fuck you, man. You had your chance, and you decided you’d rather throw your future—and mine— down the toilet.”

“You seem to have recovered just fine from where I’m sitting. I hear TU is going to the Frozen Four this year.”

I didn’t miss the edge to his tone, but I’d had years of practice ignoring his attempts to bait me. Keeping Danny out of trouble on top of my other responsibilities was exhausting without getting into a shouting match every time I saw him. He wanted to lash out, and I wanted to keep his focus firmly on me where I knew he’d be safe.

He sent me a sly look. “Unless you’re too busy with your new roommate.”

My gaze jerked to his, meeting the same brown eyes I saw every day in the mirror. “How’d you hear about that?”

He shrugged. “People talk. Especially Reece. He was in the workout room earlier telling one of the puck bunnies how he had a new roomie.”

I forced my tense muscles to relax. “I told you to stop using the hockey facility. You have a perfectly good gym on the other side of campus.”

“Your machines always work, and the sauna is top notch. Not to mention you share the space with the cheerleaders.”

TU’s hockey facility was brand new, an attempt to lure top talent away from colder climates, but they’d demolished the previous small athletic weight room to do it. Technically, we had our own weight room, but unlike the football team, CoachDalton let the other sport programs have access. Most just used the student center, but some of the cheerleaders and a few of the soccer team preferred our set up.

“You’re supposed to be keeping a low profile,” I reminded him.

“No one knows it’s me. I’m careful not to show up when you’re there. Now, when were you going to tell me you were living with the campus queen?”

“Ideally, never.”

His grin turned feral. “Ooo, possessive. Is she up there in the spare room now?”

“No.” I managed to keep my face impassive, but it didn’t matter. Danny could read me in the dark.

He leaned forward. “Wait, is she inyourroom? Can I go see?”

I glared at him, but he didn’t make any move to sprint up the stairs. “She’s sleeping, jackass.”

“Daaamn. One night here and you already tired her out.”
