“You can give me one before I have to go,” he whispered. “Let me see you come.”

I didn’t last long at all. Not with his weight on top of me, his fingers building a steady pressure, and his voice in my ear. I climaxed as pleasure rolled over me in waves.

Gavin kissed me slow and sweet. “That’s my girl.”

And I was. I was completely his. Somehow, I wasn’t freaking out, but the liquid heat in my muscles might have had something to do with it. A tinge of sadness lurked under all the warm, gooeyfeelings though. When Gavin climbed out of bed to get ready, I figured out the cause.

I didn’t want him to leave. I wanted to finish what we’d started, then curl up next to him and fall asleep in his arms again. Jesus. We’d been together for twelve hours and I was already an emotional mess.

While Gavin was dressing, one of the guys pounded on his door to give him a five-minute warning, and I was glad they hadn’t simply barged in like they tended to do with me. We needed to keep this relationship a secret if I wanted to finish my last semester of school, but I wasn’t sure we could hide it from our roommates.

Sooner or later, they’d figure it out. I trusted them not to make a big deal of it, even Reece, but the more people who knew, the more likely someone would slip up.

Gavin came back to the bed to give me a lingering kiss, ignoring the continued shouting from the hallway. “Get some sleep. I’ll see you later.”

A dark cloud settled over me after he left, but I pushed the foreboding aside to focus on my immediate future. I had the house to myself, a cleaning crew was coming in a few hours to make it shine, and I’d woken up surrounded by an irresistibly sexy man. If someone else were describing the scenario, I’d declare them a lucky bitch and we’d move on. No over-analysis necessary.

I decided to take Stephen’s advice and enjoy the moment.

Today, I was embracing my inner lucky bitch. I napped in his bed until mid-morning, then spent my down time taking care of errands and spoiling Henry. Gavin texted me increasingly dirty messages throughout the day, and when he came home after winning his game, I was naked and waiting in his bed. As promised.

Eva didn’t suddenly start spending every night with me, but it was close. Her assistantship heated up, so she was busy with a bonus project on top of all her other responsibilities. During the day, we barely saw each other, but at night, she was mine.

Danny dropped by once while she was in class to smugly tell me he’d aced the econ test. It was his way of thanking me, and for once, he didn’t ask for money. I wasn’t sure what to think of the change, but I didn’t spare it a lot of thought. Danny went through phases. I had my own shit to deal with.

Namely, I seemed to have garnered Dallas’ attention again after three years of succinct brush offs. Carter was ecstatic. I knew I was playing different—better—but it wasn’t a conscious decision. Eva came to as many games as she could, mostly on Fridays since football overlapped with our hockey schedule. Every time I looked into the stands and saw her there screaming for me, I fell a little deeper.

The guys and I had a weekend in December scheduled to surprise her at one of her competitions within driving distance. I didn’t know if they figured out the difference in our relationshipimmediately or if they simply always assumed it was this way, but nothing had changed. I was both grateful and terrified.

The week of Halloween, TU football had another early game. Stephen texted to remind me of my last foray over there and how I could do better. He was right. Eva came to a lot of my games, so I put in the effort to go to this one.

Timing would be tight with morning skate, but our game didn’t start until six. Plenty of time before I had to report to the arena. Even better, Reece and Cole had somehow talked Mase into spending Saturday night at a haunted house party, which meant Eva and I had the house to ourselves after.

I didn’t bother Dougie this time since Stephen had sent a ticket with his text. He wasn’t subtle, but I was glad he was on my side. If it had been up to Eva, I’d never set foot in the stadium. She was worried someone would figure out we were together, but I pointed out I wouldn’t even be within touching distance. As long as she kept the eye fucking to a minimum, we’d be fine.

Eva didnotback down from a challenge.

I found my seat, directly in front of the TU cheerleaders, where they were once again practicing their partner stunts. Football wasn’t my sport, obviously, but I usually enjoyed watching the matchups. Unless my girlfriend was doing crazy tumbling runs in a short skirt with a sassy grin on her face.

The game could have been played by the marching band and I wouldn’t have noticed.

In the final minute of the second quarter, TU was pushing for a touchdown, and Eva nodded at her partner, Leon. He grabbed her waist and popped her up above his head, holding her with one hand. Eva smiled and waved for the crowd to cheer louder.

I shifted back and forth between watching the action on the field, hoping for another score to put us up by ten, and watching Eva, who could probably do this stunt in her sleep. Out of thecorner of my eye, I saw the angry girl from their practice—Juliet—gesture violently toward Eva’s group while talking to an older woman.

The kicking team warmed up behind them, but I didn’t take my eyes off Juliet. She looked like she was about to cause trouble. The older woman, probably their coach, shook her head and walked toward the football players on the sidelines.

Juliet frowned and moved forward to say something to the spotter. Eva’s partner, Leon, dropped his eyes to the other woman for a second, and Eva wobbled dangerously. I wanted to shout for him to pay attention, but TU scored, making the crowd erupt into cheers.

Eva’s jaw clenched as she fought to stay upright, but Leon was moving too much trying to find his balance again. Juliet stepped closer, directly into his path, waving her arms wildly as she appeared to berate the spotter.

I watched my girl realize the second she was going to fall. She shouted to Leon, but it was too late. He popped her out of his hold, and she went sideways. Only her extreme core strength kept her anywhere near him. Unfortunately, Juliet was directly under Eva.

Leon tried to catch her, to the extent that he bulldozed Juliet right into the spotter, but he only managed to get one arm under her. Juliet shrieked as one of Eva’s legs caught her in the face, and the spotter tried to shove past in a lopsided dive.

My heart jumped into my throat when Eva hit the ground, and I reacted, vaulting over the railing to get down to the field. Only a few of the fans around me had noticed her fall, but my acrobatics drew the attention of the crowd.
