Granted, I hadn’t seen him in months, not since my birthday at the beginning of the year. He’d cut his hair. The shaggy length used to hang all over the place, but now it was short on the sides and slightly longer on top where it stuck up in tiny spikes. The look suited the sharp planes of his face, and I’d bet he got a lot more attention from the ladies now.

Cole was hot. Not Gavin level hot, but close. I took quick stock of the others and groaned. All four of them were attractive. Lean, muscled, broad shouldered, I was surprised there weren’t ball bunnies camped out on the lawn.

Wait, hockey groupies weren’t ball bunnies. Puck bunnies? Shit, I needed to learn the language before I ended up being the morning after bunny remover.

Gavin stepped forward under the streetlight and smirked at Henry in the window. “You going to introduce us, Princess?”

Cole snorted out a laugh then quickly smothered it when I glowered at him. He held out his hands in a peace gesture. “If you’d called me, I’d have let you pay rent like a normal person.”

Gavin elbowed him in the gut, and Cole let out anoofas he doubled over. “Stay out of it, Mathis.”

The other two ambled our way, and I finally exited the car, circling to stand next to Henry’s window in case she got any ideas about her ability to fly. As a duck, shecouldfly—she just preferred to be carried. Which meant she was more the falling with style type.

Gavin nodded his head at me. “This is Eva, the one I told you about.”

I frowned at the silent message that passed between them. “Nice to meet you.”

The tallest one with piercing green eyes and tousled dark blond hair grinned at me. “Welcome home, beautiful.”

Gavin rolled his eyes. “That one’s Reece Tanner, shameless flirt. The other is Mason Black. He’s our goalie, and I have no idea what goes through his head on any given day.”

Mason gave me a sharp smile and a salute. Like Gavin, he had tattoos on his arms, but his snaked all the way down his hands. “I’m grabbing a shower.”

He turned and left without another word, snagging his bag and sticks on the way into the house. When I sent Gavin a questioning look, he shrugged.

“Not everyone warmed to the idea right away.”

Cole shook his head. “Mase can be an asshole, but he’ll get over it. Need me to carry anything?”

I shook my head, staring up the empty street. “I don’t have much in the car. My movers have the rest of my stuff in the truck.”

Gavin frowned. “How long have you been waiting?”

I checked my watch, surprised by the time. “About a half hour.”

“What time were they supposed to arrive?”

“They were supposed to beat us here.” I felt stupid for letting myself get so distracted by my new digs I didn’t notice something was wrong with the movers. With a sigh, I pulled up the number for the company and went over the terms of the contract in my head. They’d charged extra for the after-hours move, but they’d promised immediate service.

After five rings, their voicemail informed me I could leave a message or call back during business hours. I had a message for them, but it wasn’t appropriate for little duck ears. My lips pressed together as I jabbed at the end button.

Gavin held out his hand.

I raised a brow. “Yes?”

“Let me try.”

My fingers tightened around the phone. “They didn’t answer. You being in possession of a penis does not make companies magically pick up the phone.”

He wiggled his fingers and Cole snickered, so I slapped the phone into his hand. His lips twitched as he put the call on speaker.

I opened my mouth to mock him again, and a gruff voice answered the call.

“’Lo?”

“Hey, my friend—” I snorted loudly at the description, and Gavin turned his back on me without missing a beat. “Eva Adams hired you guys tonight to move her, but her truck hasn’t arrived yet.”

“One second.” The loud clacking of a keyboard filled the quiet. “Adams? Says here they arrived to the pickup on time, but the truck got a flat on the way to the dropoff. Delivery is delayed until tomorrow.”
