“A couch someplace is fine by me,” I tell her.

“Yeah, a couch in my room. Aren’t you supposed to be protecting me?” she asks.

“Yeah, and I can do that from any couch in the house, Princess.”

“You can’t be serious?”

“You want me in your room that badly? Fine. I’ll stay in your room.” She nods her head, and I follow her up the stairs, although my mind starts working overtime. Is there something she isn’t telling me? Is there a reason she wants me in her room? There has to be some sort of threat Mitch doesn’t know about; otherwise, she wouldn’t care where I slept.

Ignoring it for now, I follow her into what I assume to be her bedroom. The room is large, with a big bed on one side of the room and a couch, just like she said, against one wall.

“It pulls out, and it’s actually comfortable,” she tells me as she nods toward the couch.

“It’ll be fine,” I assure her. I walk over and drop my bag onto the couch as she glances around.

“Did you only bring one bag?”

“That’s all I need,” I tell her.

“You’ll be here for months,” she reminds me.

“I’ll be fine, Princess.” She nods again before dropping onto her bed. “You don’t come home a lot?” I ask.

“Not enough. I miss this bed,” she groans as she rolls over and buries her face into the blanket. I smirk.

“Sounds like you could use a little more time at home.”

“I could, but work calls and I have to go. Some days, it’s exhausting.”

“I bet so.”

“What about you? Do you live at home or in the clubhouse? Is that even a thing?” she giggles as she looks up at me. Big blue eyes stare me down, and I find myself lost in them.

“I have an apartment, but for the most part, it’s a waste of money. I stay at the clubhouse. What do you know about the MC anyway?” I ask her.

“Not much. Just what you see on TV.”

“TV lies. Not all that is true,” I remind her. She nods her head.

“I get that. I’m just curious, is all.”

“It’s not like they show on TV. We don’t just go around killin’ people for fun.” Well, that’s only partially true, but she doesn’t need to know that.

“What is it like?”

“It’s amazin’. You won’t find anything else like it. The brotherhood we share is one of a kind. Nothin’ else can compare.”

“And the club whores? Do you guys have them?”

“Every club has them, so yeah, we do. They’re just like the rest of us. Tryin’ to live and get by another day in this life.”

“But you love it?”

“Yeah, I do. I wouldn’t change that for anything. The club is my home and always will be.” She nods her head as she lays it back on the pillow.

“I wish I had that,” she says softly.

“You have family, yeah?”
