“So you thought you’d come to my house?” I scrunch my face. “Maybe I haven’t made myself clear enough. I’m not interested in being your omega.”

His smile is so condescending, I clench my fingers into fists. “This little game of hard to get is fun, but I’m getting tired of waiting for you to come to your senses.” He walks toward me, and I take three quick steps back, my heart hammering against my rib cage.

“I’m not playing any games.” I hold up my hand, trying to stop him, but he continues heading toward me. Preparing to run, I brace my abs and shift my weight to the balls of my feet.

The roar of an engine suddenly tears down the street, and my head whips to the side just as Brady slams on the brakes of his pearl white Mercedes. The tires scream across the pavement, and as the car jolts to its final stop, Brady jumps out of the car, bat in hand and eyes viciously narrowed on Mr. Mosley. Compared to the lithe older alpha, Brady is a mountain. Tall and stacked with muscle. Fueled by a hate I’m not sure I’ll ever understand.

He takes a step, and I swear the ground quivers and the sky darkens.

My knees threaten to give out. I’ve never been so thankful for his anger, for that violent aura, than I am right now.

“I don’t give a fuck who you are, you have five seconds to get off my driveway before I use your face to repave it.”

Mr. Mosley leers at me and scurries toward his car. “You haven’t been playing games? When were you going to tell me you have an alpha?”

“He’s my stepbrother,” I snap.

“Four, three,” Brady counts as he storms toward Mr. Mosley. The other alpha blanches and gets into his car, slamming the door shut. “Two, one.” Brady winds up and swings the bat, clipping the left taillight as Mr. Mosley peels out. Pieces of red plastic arc through the air, like blood.

I cover my mouth with my hands, watching the older alpha tuck tail and run. My pulse thunders in my ears, but Brady’s heaving breaths hit me. He growls and turns that glare on me.

“What thefuckdid you do?” He marches toward me, bat in hand, and I flinch. He snarls and tosses the bat away but continues toward me.

“Leave me alone, Brady.” I head toward the house, hoping he’ll let it be.

He doesn’t. Leaving his car where it is, he stomps after me. Every step he takes sets my heart racing faster and faster and faster until my hands shake and my skin heats. Pushing through the door, I let it shut in his face and power walk up the stairs, refusing to actually run away from him.

A few moments later, the door snaps open and smacks against the wall. “Who was that? What did you do?”

Of course, he immediately assumes I did something wrong. I appreciate him scaring off Mr. Mosley, but he’s out of line. The only thing I’ve ever done wrong since I’ve known Brady is be anomega. I stayed out of trouble. I did everything I was asked. I followed all the rules and never stepped out of line.

I keep our secret, even though it’s killing me.

The fact that he’s accusing me of being the problem hurts more than it should.

“Quinn, goddammit, don’t walk away from me.” His steps pound against the stairs, far too close for comfort.

My stomach flutters at his proximity, and I smash my lips together to keep from screaming at him. I make it to the top of the stairs before he catches my wrist and whirls me around. The blue of his irises, even flooded with rage, is breathtaking. I jerk against his hold, but his grip is like steel. He tugs me against his chest, and I gasp, bucking against his hold.

“Let me go.”

“Tell me what you did,” he snaps.

“Fuck you,” I hiss, glaring at him.

“Is that what you did with that alpha? Is that why he’s here?”

I rear back as pain lances through me, face crumpling. Regret flashes over his face, but it’s there and gone in an instant.

“Quinn, tell me what happened.” The command hits me, the alpha bark digging its talons into my flesh and ripping the answer from my lips before I can even think to fight it.

“He was my boss and took me to dinner. I thought it was to celebrate getting a new client, but his pack was there. They wanted me as their omega, and I got creeped out and left the dinner. He fired me. He’s ruining my life by telling everyone I have a porn addiction.” I suck in a breath as the compulsion to respond fades and squint at Brady. “And I didn’t sleep with him, you ignorantfuckingalpha asshole.” This time, when I yank against his hold, he releases me.

“Why didn’t you just say that?”

I scoff. Is he serious right now? “The first thing you did after he left was accuse me of doing something.” And he’s implied thatI’m generally a horrible omega with how he’s treated me all these years.

“I shouldn’t have said it like that. I was on my way home when the security system alerted me that someone was on the property. I saw him on the security system, snooping around, and I thought you were inside and I—” He cuts off.
