“Actually, I do.” I notice her cheeks instantly turn red.

“Sex.” Maisie flashes me a smile. “I’ll bet she thinks about sex almost as much as she thinks about food.”

“Maisie!” Leia scolds, but she doesn’t deny it as her hand strokes over her bump like it's evidence to her defense.

“C’mon, you’re talking to someone who’s been through this,” Maisie reminds her.

“Tell me it gets easier.” Leia sighs and pouts at the same time.

“I could tell you that, but it would be a lie.” Maisie giggles.

“Well, you had triplets, you would have had triple the hormones.” Leia gets up and starts picking up the plates.

“Whatever you have to tell yourself.” Me and Maisie look at each other and laugh before we set to work helping her.

“So, you gonna tell us what's goin’ on?” Garrett starts loading the tools we’ll need to work on Wade’s cabin into the back of his truck.

“You saw for yourself what's goin’ on.” I try not to make a big deal out of it as I pick up a tool belt from one of the beams and throw it over my shoulder.

“I don’t know what the hell it was we just saw.” Wade sniggers as he hops across to the middle seat so I can climb in beside him. “And this better not be another one of your?—”

“It ain’t,” I cut him off before he can even say it.

“So what we just witnessed back there was real?” He looks at me doubtfully, while Garrett starts the engine and pulls out the yard, taking the freshly graveled track toward Wade’s new cabin.

“It’s real. We sorted shit out last night,” I assure him, hanging my arm out the window while we drive. I’m lookin’ forward to workin’ with my brothers this mornin’. All the rafters got delivered yesterday so we can finally start getting the roof on the place. Me and my brothers have always worked well together, our grandpa had us doin’ chores around the ranch as soon as we were strong enough to lift up a hammer.

“Well it’s good to see you happy.” My little brother smiles. “Who’d have ever thought it, huh? All three Carson brotherssettled.” I laugh with him, and both of us look worried when we notice that Garrett doesn’t share the same reaction. He’s been distant lately, which is always unnerving.

“What's up?” I lean forward so I can ask him.

“Nothing much, I’m just thinking ‘bout something Harvey said on the phone last week.”

“Harvey says a lotta shit.” Wade shakes his head in disapproval.

“What’d he say?” I frown at Garrett curiously, knowing that he takes a lot of the Harvey shit on his own shoulders.

“He suggested that there was a reason for him choosing this town. I’ve always wondered why it was so important to him, there's no links to any real political power here.”

“Maybe he likes the view.” Wade laughs as he looks out the windshield at the ridge and mountains that surround our pretty little town.

“Nah, there's more to it, I can tell. I’ve had Zayne looking into it but, so far, he’s come up with nothin’.” Garrett creases his forehead and I can see that this is really getting to him.

“Does it matter? Harvey’s got you between a rock and a hard place, regardless of his reasons.” Wade points out as Garrett pulls to a stop outside his half-constructed cabin.

“I was hoping that if I knew, maybe there would be a way I could reason with him,” Garrett admits, sounding defeated.

“You can’t reason with a man like Harvey.” I open the door and get ready to start work.

Despite Garrett’s concerns about Harvey, his mood seems to lift once we get started, and we’ve made pretty good progress a few hours later when Maisie’s truck pulls up.

I get an overwhelming sense of comfort when I see Savannah’s the one drivin’, and she looks impressed when she gets out and admires our handy work.

“Lookin’ good, boys. You think you could take a break?” She holds up the basket in her hand before placing it on the hood of the truck.

“Good timing, I’m starving.” Wade slides down the ladder and immediately starts digging in, while I head straight for my girl and place a kiss on her lips. I figure I can do that whenever I want now, and I like how that feels. I like the way she smiles when I do it even more.

“Hello, you.” She blushes like she’s still not used to me showing public affection, but it’s something she’s gonna have to get used to. I may not be a man of many words, but I do want this whole town to know who she belongs to.
